(Obama): Graduates, Your Ambition Is the Problem (Altered title)
WSJ Opinion ^ | 5-7-2013 | Roger Pilon

(snip)

"The Founders left us the keys to a system of self-government," he went on, "the tool to do big and important things together that we could not possibly do alone." And what "big and important things" cannot be done except through government? On the president's list are railroads, the electrical grid, highways, education, health care, charity and more. One imagines a historical vision reaching as far back as the New Deal. Americans "chose to do these things together," he added, "because we know this country cannot accomplish great things if we pursue nothing greater than our own individual ambition."

Notice that twice now Mr. Obama has invoked "individual ambition," and not as a virtue. For other targets, he next counseled the graduates against the "voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that's the root of all our problems, even as they do their best to gum up the works."

The irony here should not go unnoticed: The opponents that the president disparages are the same folks who tried to save the country from one of the biggest pieces of gum now in the works: Mr. Obama's own health-care insurance program, which today is filling many of its backers with dread as it moves toward full implementation in a matter of months.

None of that darkens Mr. Obama's sunny view of collective effort. What does upset him, still, is the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis: "Too many on Wall Street," he said, "forgot that their obligations don't end with their shareholders." No mention of the Federal Reserve, or Fannie Mae, FNMA +0.1<% Freddie Mac, FMCC -0.24% the Community Reinvestment Act, or the many other "big and important things" government undertook before the crisis hit, ....

“Notice that twice now Mr. Obama has invoked “individual ambition,” and not as a virtue.”

However, his OWN individual ambition is sacrosanct!!

What a load of crap this guy is!

Really? Can anyone say that Americans “chose” to have socialized medicine in 2010 when the government lied to the people as to its cost and over-bearing regulations? No. ObamaCare has never had a majority in favor of it.

(more excerpt)

From George Washington to Calvin Coolidge, presidents sought mostly to administer the laws that enabled citizens to live their own lives, ambitiously or not. It would have been thought impertinent for a president to tell a graduating class that what the country needs is the political will "to harness the ingenuity of your generation, and encourage and inspire the hard work of dedicated citizens . . . to repair the middle class; to give more families a fair shake; to reject a country in which only a lucky few prosper."

Obama had taught the young to dream big, not on your own behalf but for the greater good. All you have to do is HOPE and CHANGE will come.

Nothing at all about the history of how this country was never founded and never because of "The LUCKY FEW".

One of my favorite quotes. I'll stick with the words of someone who actually produced something of value in his life.

O, hate to remind you of this but you were raised by Communist Party members with ties to the CIA and were groomed as a puppet to be used to bring about the destruction of the United States by Communists. Your education on how to do this was started by a FMD and you were taught to use racism as a wedge to accomplish your goals. Your education was financed by a Saudi Prince and a rich terrorist friend’s father that wanted o blow up the WH and you were further groomed for your job by people in power who arranged for you to become a lawyer along with false identification and a fake birth certificate. In college they say you took courses that were anti-American government and that you learned various ideologies on hw to destroy a nation. You were given a job as an activist so you could further learn how to rig elections by turning friend into foe using racism and Alinsky tactics. No Sir, with all due respect, you did not earn your present job, you were groomed or and given it at the appointed time to destroy our nation. You are bought and paid for, lock, stock, and barrel.

In other words, “do nothing on your own, just wait for your masters to tell you what to do.”

How students did not walk out on this talk amazes me. How parents who are in hock paying for their schooling did not protest or walk out amazes me.

obama forgot that this day is about the graduating students and their families. Of course he is innately incapable of not making every occasion about himself. Still, if you've put your kid through four years or more of higher learning, you want to see them walk up there and get that diploma. And the participants have no say in who the speaker will be. I've been fortunate that in my son's and daughter's graduations, we had good speakers who knew how to give a proper address.

Another rephrasing: “Your dreams and desires mean nothing, only your subservience to, and subjection by, the state.”

"The Founders left us the keys to a system of self-government,"

What the Founders left us was the opportunity to govern ourselves. The premise is that you can do any damn thing you wish as long as you harm neither the person nor the property.

Constitutional Law Professor my ass. I don' think the President has even read the Constitution. I wonder what Obama would think when he comes to that part about him.

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

The Founders left us a document that limited the power of government to its proper role of protecting the people, not controlling the people. This is the correct amount of government.

Dinesh D’Souza nailed it when he researched the roots of Obama’s rage. I fear Obama’s “best” is inadequate at best.

There are no publicly owned railroads,
electrical grid is private,
highways are public(one for Obastard),
education is both public and private(should be private only),
health care is private except for military system,
charity is the purview of the church unless you consider taxes charity(which I do)
