The 1911 is fairly easy to strip and actually even detail strip if you have the intructions. The only problem I ever have is getting that barrel link just in the right spot to put the slide release pin through it.

The Browning Hi-Power us much easier to field strip tho.

Just watch out for that idiot scratch. Ruined the finish on my first 1911 the first time I took it apart.

The most difficult pistol to field strip and put together again, in my opinion, is the 9mm Rohrbaugh.

I am not familiar with that one. I know my Father learned to field strip his bring back Luger by himself. I bought one around 1988 then sold it around 4 years later. I never did figure out how to field strip it mostly because it was not shot very much.

One of the most difficult ones for me is the Ruger standard model .22 or target model for that matter.

Also the Astra 400 and 600. It is easy to move the slide assembly off the frame but to field strip it is fairly hard simply because the spring is so strong.

YouTube's a good resource for almost every gun model. So is this: Owners' manuals for all kinds of different guns.

Certainly appreciated that little shortcut on the take down!

My Gold Cup is tricked out for competition and everything is a tight fit.

Mark IV, Series 70 has a lot of rounds through it, so the small things are starting to need repair/replacement. So I don’t fire it too much anymore.

Incidentally, despite watching several youtube videos and reading the owner's manual, I STILL cannot manage to strip down my Rock Island Armory Compact 1911 for the life of me. I can pull my Colt 1911 apart like it's a stick of butter, but the RIA has me totally flummoxed. It's like all the videos and the manual are about a different gun: Nobody talks about how difficult one particular step can be.

I've thought about just going ahead and taking it to the range and putting a couple of hundred rounds through it. Maybe it'll loosen up after that and I'll be able to disassemble it. But I still haven't done it.

I’m with you on the link/pin thing, ugh! By comparison my Glock is a piece of cake. But ya know, that big stainless 1911 is still so much fun to shoot, I don’t mind the “work” of cleaning and caring for it.

Thank You, Nachum!
That was a very instructional video. My Mama owns several little .22 and .25 “Saturday Night Specials”, and she has never field-stripped or completely cleaned & oiled any of them. I’m going to bookmark this video just for her. Thank you so much for posting this.

I just bought a RIA tactical officer’s size model. I didn’t have any problems tearing it down. I do want to swap out the GI style thumb safety with an extended one, but I will be finding a local gun smith to fit that properly.

Okay, I think I've found a video that explains how to work around the difficulty some of us are having while trying to field strip the weapon. Juggalo10mm's explanation of the problem starts about one minute into the video and involves the use of a paperclip.

Apparently the tolerances are so tight, some owners will find they simply cannot remove the guide rod assembly in the normal way. That's certainly the case with mine. The gun might be taking a trip to a smith real soon since I'll be doggone if I'm going to carry around a pocketful of paperclips with me everywhere!

Another reason why I love my Beretta 92FS - I can field strip it and reassemble it blindfolded in a minute.

Simplicity, yet a quality firearm.

I assume any gun I regularly shoot will eventually get that idiot scratch. I have 1911’s I shoot and others which stay in the safe.

Do you have any videos showing the field stripping of a Ruger Mark III easily? Those guns are a son of a B%÷×#
