NSA Rebuked By Secret Court
Political Realities ^ | 08/22/13 | LD Jackson

The NSA scandal keeps getting bigger. At the heart of President Obama's defense of the NSA's practice of gathering our data has been the supposed oversight by Congress and the courts. He tells us we should trust our government to do the right thing with these programs and the data they are collecting. As it turns out, the secret court that was set up to watch over the NSA program has warned the Obama administration that it was overstepping its authority and boundaries.

Fox News - The National Security Agency was rebuked by a secret court in 2011 for collecting thousands of emails and other online details from Americans with no ties to terrorism, according to court opinions which were declassified for the first time on Wednesday.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence took the unusual step of declassifying more than 100 pages of documents, amid the escalating public debate about government surveillance programs. The release comes several days after a report showed that the NSA had violated privacy rules and overstepped its authority thousands of times.

The defenders of the Obama administration, mainly the mainstream media, will no doubt say this shows the system is working and that Americans are safer because of it. My trouble with this system lies in the following quote from the Fox News story.
In 2011, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court was notified of a problem involving "upstream collection," which is the collection of Internet traffic outside of the service providers. The NSA was collecting bundled email communications under a provision which focuses on foreign Internet traffic. The NSA, though, was not effectively segregating all the traffic from Americans.

The court rebuked the NSA for the violation.

"For the first time the government has now advised the Court that the volume and nature of the information it has been collecting is fundamentally different from what the court had been led to believe," John D. Bates, a judge on the surveillance court, said in October 2011.

The NSA reported the problems it discovered in how it was gathering Internet communications to the court and shortly thereafter to Congress in the fall of 2011.

If I understand the basic premise of what has taken place, it is as follows.

Large and secret government organization reports to secret court that it has violated the order of said court. Secret court then rebukes large and secret government organization for said violation. A slap on the wrist and everyone resumes their former positions.

Does anyone else see a problem with this? Why does the FISC have to rely on the NSA to report if it finds a violation? My feeling is that the fox is having a grand time in the hen-house. He'll let us know if he does something illegal.Now doesn't that just leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy?

Obama tells us we should trust our government to do the right thing with the programs and data NSA is collecting.

DOES OBAMA MEAN THIS GOVERNMENT? (/snix)

Arif Alikhan, assistant secretary of Homeland Security for policy development;

Mohammed Elibiary, a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council;

Rashad Hussain, the U.S. special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference;

Salam al-Marayati, co-founder of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC);

Imam Mohamed Magid, president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA);

Eboo Patel, a member of President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships.

==============================================

ACCORDING TO AN EGYPTIAN MAGAZINE:

Alikhan is a founder of the World Islamic Organization, which the magazine identifies as a Brotherhood “subsidiary.” It suggests that Alikhan was responsible for the “file of Islamic states” in the White House and that he provides the direct link between the Obama administration and the Arab Spring revolutions of 2011.

Elibiary, who has endorsed the ideas of radical Muslim Brotherhood luminary Sayyid Qutb, may have leaked secret materials contained in Department of Homeland Security databases, according to the magazine. He, however, denies having any connection with the Brotherhood. Elibiary also played a role in defining the Obama administration’s counterterrorism strategy, and the magazine asserts that Elibiary wrote the speech Obama gave when he told former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to leave power but offers no source or evidence for the claim.

Rashad Hussain maintained close ties with people and groups that it says comprise the Muslim Brotherhood network in America. This includes his participation in the June 2002 annual conference of the American Muslim Council, formerly headed by convicted terrorist financier Abdurahman Alamoudi. He also participated in the organizing committee of the Critical Islamic Reflection along with important figures of the American Muslim Brotherhood such as Jamal Barzinji,Hisham al-Talib and Yaqub Mirza.

Regarding al-Marayati, who has been among the most influential Muslim American leaders in recent years, the magazine draws connections between MPAC in the international Muslim Brotherhood infrastructure.

Magid heads ISNA, which was founded by Brotherhood members, was appointed by Obama in 2011 as an adviser to the Department of Homeland Security. The magazine says that has also given speeches and conferences on American Middle East policy at the State Department and offered advice to the FBI. Rose El-Youssef says Patel maintains a close relationship with Hani Ramadan, the grandson of Brotherhood founder Hasan al- Banna, and is a member of the Muslim Students Association, which it identifies as “a large Brotherhood organization.” ---source IPT>

Humm, I wonder how the FBI just happen to come across the CIA directors e-mails to Miss Broderick, The general,who just happen to be in charge during Bengasi, e-mails to a mistress , I am sure it was the result of an investigation NOT. This is how all are controlled in DC, They all have something in their online closet.

J Edgar Hoover is spinning in his grave thinking of all the power he could have had in the electronic world.

M any fully loaded T’anks Liz. your reply is spot on. IMO the usurper in the White House has surrounded itself with its own kind of revolutionary.and The controversy remains valid about his religion because of his alliances.His own brother now linked to the Brotherhood—can he be far off?

Well I sort of agree—sorta not. At least the President I served while on Active Duty “Nixon” was an American. and a Patriot— whoever/whatever Obama is the American people will not see confirmed for decades—if ever. IMO the only reason Nixon was forced to resign— and Obama remains politically protected is seen in the political Party affiliation—Had Nixon been a Democrat without a doubt the press and the Party would have defended him against all opposition.

http://www.nsa.gov/public_info/foia/submit_foia_request/foia_request_form.shtml

The NSA has an web page for FOIA submissions - linked above.

It is really easy.

Perhaps we could organize a one million FOIA march on the NSA?

He snuck into office under false pretenses---now we are on high alert that El Creepo has a secret plan. He's always sticking his thumb in our faces---when Stupid Susan screwed up WRT Benghazi he put her on the ntl Security Council, then flaunted her as his "advisor" on Egypt while vacyaing in MV.

I believe the creep's plan is to install the Muslim Brotherhood in key WH positions---and to jetstream billions of tax dollars to the ones in Egypt thankfully being taken out by Gen al-Sisi.

==================================================================

A STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE In 2009, Obama made a self-serving, suck-up speech in Cairo----apologizing for America's historical role in the Middle East. Obama calculatedly set the stage for the Egyptian president's overthrow by the mob.

When the worst-case scenario happened, when Obama's personal choice---Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Morsi, was elected president----Obama sap-happily sent his secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, to Cairo to personally kiss-up to Morsi---(perhaps at that time hatching their plans to destroy Westen civiliation in compliance w/ Muslim Brotherhood dictates?).

Obama added a treacherous ill-advised component to US foreign policy----sucking up to the very people who want to kill Americans and destroy American churches.

Obama was prostrate in obeisance before Muslim leaders---portraying teeming Muslim majorities there as ""victims of Western colonialism and Cold War policies, stupidly promoted democracy among conflicting cultures w/ thousands of years of religious and territorial factionalism.

"The relationship between Islam and the West includes centuries of coexistence and cooperation, but also conflict and religious wars," Obama said in the June 2009 speech in Cairo. "More recently, tension has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Muslims, and a Cold War in which Muslim-majority countries were too often treated as proxies, without regard to their own aspirations."

Fast froward to 2013: in the past 4-5 days, the savage Muslim Brotherhood torched some 57 Egyptian churches and Christian businesses. Obama ignored the bloodbath and spent the crisis dining out, golfing, power-partying, and vacationing in exclusive Martha’s Vineyard on the taxpayers' dime.
