In an incredible story from the USA Today, a man and his son were kicked out of an Arizona Cardinals football game after the man asked his 15-year old son to hold his beer so he could retrieve his camera from his pocket.
That is all it took for two undercover Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control officers to descend on those criminals. They threatened to arrest the man, but ended up throwing him and his son out of the game instead for the crime of asking his son to temporarily hold his beer.
Officials for the Arizona Liquor department stand by the officers brave and mindlessly unjustified enforcement of a law that clearly was not designed to turn law-abiding citizens into criminals. Providing alcohol to an underage person or an underage person in possession of alcohol is a Class 1 misdemeanor, said one official.

No matter where you go anymore,...there is the government.
Those liquor control officers better stay out of Wisconsin, then.
The government has priorities. After all, what is more important? Illegal immigrants crossing the border or a teenager holding a beer for his dad. (sarc)
I guess that in Arizona, you never say, “Here, hold muh beer.”
In most states, it’s illegal for minors to purchase alcohol, but not to consume it if it’s provided and supervised by a parent. If you want to give your child a glass or sip of wine in a restaurant, it’s legal.
I’m not bothered by the expulsion from the game.
Let's all sing....."look for the union label"....
No open container law?
If they were Cardinal fans, the fuzz did them a favor.
On the other hand, how big was the kid? Maybe he could try out for the Cardinals as an offensive lineman.
I don’t think there is any law against a minor holding a beer.
Hold muh beer, son.
Unfortunately for you, the Gestapo ceased operations on the 8th of May, 1945. I’m sure that they would have welcomed you into their ranks and you could have helped bring a special kind of order and discipline into this world.
Technically they are right. Doesn’t change the fact that they are a pair of A-holes.
Possession measured in microseconds?
Hmmm....
One of the few “hold muh beer” moments that the Goverment found a way to stop
We moved into a school district that had a rule that if a teacher or school administrator saw you giving your own child a drink of alcohol/wine, your kid could get in trouble at school including suspension or detention, etc...
I marked the line out before I signed the “rules” page. My daughter’s counselor called me and mentioned the marked out line. I let her know that what me and my daughter drink during NON-school hours is none of their business and if they ever mention anything that occurs during NON-school hours, they would be up in their ears in lawyers.
That was five years ago and my youngest is a senior in high school this year. Every year I mark out that line and I have never heard anything else about it from the school.
What’s bothersome about these stories is that there doesn’t seem to be any common sense discretion on the part of law enforcement. Sure, the kid was in possession of an adult beverage, but there’s the letter of the law there’s the spirit of the law. “Hey, don’t let your kid hold your beer. Enjoy the game”.
