Republicans Pulling Defeat from the Jaws of Victory

Reading the political news every day can get quite depressing as one continually sees an insane lack of common sense from the Republican establishment. In a perfect world, every elected member of the Republican party (and the inner bosses) would adhere to Constitutional principles and stand united against the anti-American forces of progressive liberalism. Sadly, we don't live in a perfect world and this is reflected in the Republican establishment hell-bent on destroying the Tea Party. This is utter political suicide as that, without the fiscally conservative Tea Party base, Republicans will not likely be able to gain seats in the House of Representatives or the Senate. Yet this is the path the Republican establishment is choosing to follow.

It's being reported that an anti-Tea Party group, Defending Main Street, will be meeting on November 5th with Wall Street donors to fundraise to fight Tea Party conservatives in the upcoming midterm elections in 2014. According to the AP, this group thinks that the Tea Party has "overstayed their welcome in Washington and should be shown the door in next year's congressional elections." The group is run by ex-Representative Steve LaTourette, who says that his group will be aggressive and get in the faces of the Tea Party. Defending Main Street isn't alone as other groups, fueled by funds from beltway Republicans and business groups, are actively working to make sure that only liberal Republicans are voted in; so-called "moderate" Republicans who favor amnesty for illegal aliens. Other anti-Tea Party groups include the US Chamber of Commerce and Karl Rove's Crossroads.

These groups constantly say the same things to justify their actions: the Tea Party is hurting the brand, conservatives cannot win elections, that the Tea Party is getting in the way of important goals - such as amnesty. In one sense, they are right. The Tea Party and those who believe in the US Constitution are holding up the agenda of those who seek to radically transform America. It's true we don't care about the Republican brand as the Republican Party has sold its soul and become a Democrat-lite party of big government and out-of-control spending. The Tea Party does represent a threat to the politics-as-usual sliminess that goes in Washington, D.C. every day as the vast majority of elected officials look to feather their own nest and not look out for the common good. It's the Tea Party who stands up against the beltway politicians and votes them out in the primaries, and as such, they are a real threat to the status quo enjoyed by elitist establishment politicians.

I find it hysterical that these groups push the false narrative that Tea Party candidates hurt the Republican party in elections. While there have been a few weak candidates pushed forward by the Tea Party, it is far more common that the "moderate" Republican candidate pushed on us by the establishment fails to win. Remember that 3 million conservative voters stayed home on election day in 2012. Conservatives are tired of having the Republican Party come to them only to fill up their coffers at election time, but then turn around and betray every conservative principle they supposedly espouse. For religious conservatives, the Republican establishment does noting to reach out to them and, in fact, seeks to marginalize them. As long as the political class get to stay in Washington and hobnob over cocktails and dinner parties, they don't give a damn about the rest of us. The simmering anger that has fueled the Tea Party has taken the establishment by surprise and they will not stand to have their cozy Washington existence jeopardized. That's why they're willing to spend tens of millions of dollars to fight people in their own party and stamp out the grass-roots movement. Why worry about liberal Democrats when conservatives are getting stabbed in the back by Republicans? If the Republican Party would embrace the conservative principles of the Tea Party, the base would be galvanized and the turnout in the 2014 midterm election would be staggering. We actually have a chance to begin to put an end to Obama's disastrous reign, but the Republican establishment is yet again ready to grab defeat from the jaws of victory.

They don’t see it that way. To most incumbent republicans, if the democrats win, they win.

The RINOs attacking the Tea Party have no idea how short lived their elected tenure be.

I agree and that's a huge problem. Corruption needs to removed utterly.

It’s not because of the lack of common sense. It is because they are collectivists just like the Dems.

And I'm perfectly willing to let them.
And I'm a lifelong registered Democrat, voting Republican the last 50 years.

But the traitors will not get in the faces of the true enemies of our freedom(D).
They are becoming the coconspirators of the enemies of our country and there are
only pastel differences dividing the two party leaders.
