Yep, I’d move to a trawler or the right houseboat in a second. I use houseboat in the essay to avoid a lot of boring technical nautical jargon. Even landlubbers “get” the houseboat concept. Trawlers take more explanation but fit that middle ground, air and water draft wise.

I’ll bet it scares you! Those twin 350s must have to be shoehorned into a 24 footer with grease?

I’ve often watched the Camden cruise schooners sailing by when I’ve been out in the bay. Notably the Victory Chimes.

Back when I was younger there was the Dark Harbor Inn in Gilkey Harbor, and the Windjammers used to anchor off it once a week, so everyone could go ashore and visit the bar.

They still sometimes stop for the night in the harbor—but there’s no longer a bar.

I finished it last summer, though I’m thinking about taking off part of the paint job and doing something different. It’s a 260 Fisherman, a good solid boat, and I think as good or better now than when it was new. I got it because I wanted to restore a boat, one that was large enough to give me a challenge. A sailboat is my goal, but the way things are going, I might not get there.

Worthy of "Classic Thread" nomination.

****It depends on how often you seek out the customs people to present them. They don’t “ask,” they don’t know you are within a thousand miles until you walk up to some office in a city and tell them.****

That might change if the SHTF, but I don’t believe the governments of the world are going to be expending many resources scouring the ocean for strays. Getting to know where to get supplies with minimal contact from other people sounds easy enough with some experience.

if you take a sip of rum and spit it into their gills, it puts them into a permanent coma, no matter how big the fish.

I like to clean the fish right away and sometimes I put it into a bucket of ocean water w extra salt added to “brine” the fish for a half hour before replacing the salt water w fresh water, then draining b4 cooking-this takes any fishy taste away. Works really well with sharks and rays, when you realize a stingray tastes just like $200 of scallops you start hunting for them.
