U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, right, talks with employees of DeNA during his visit to DeNA Co., Ltd, a global Internet company providing web services for mobile devices and PCs, in Tokyo Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013.
Mr. Biden asked the question while sitting with five women in the DeNa cafeteria in Tokyo. Their responses couldnt all be heard by reporters.
Can anyone work from home? Mr. Biden asked. One woman replied, Yes, under certain conditions.
The vice president visited the company with the new U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Caroline Kennedy, to promote more women in the Japanese workforce. Japanese industries have lagged in hiring women.
Later, Mr. Biden said the U.S. needs to improve along with Japan at creating equal opportunities for women.
We in America have a long way to go as well, Mr. Biden said. But theres an inevitability to this march. Theres not a single thing that a man can do that a woman cannot do. And until we begin to face up to that, were going to be having an incredible amount of wasting assets out there.

Is Biden able to find his butt with both hands and the lights on?
Certainly I can think of a large number of women who would be better at Vice-President and President than Biden and Obama. He sounds like an antiquated old geezer. How condescending.
actually Joe as usual is wrong . women do not produce sperm and NEVER will
Yeah that was my take on that picture too
It’s OK, he’s got that mega-mind Caroline Kennedy there to back him up. Her great experience with... uh.. with... um... Oh wait, I remember, she’s a lawyer, probably a Constitutional scholar like that Barry Obama...
Dear Japan: I’m sorry we shipped those two idiots over, we mean no disrespect. We recognize that intense pressures Japan is under, and the current tensions with China. We expect to have adult leadership in America by 2017. Yes, we too wish it were sooner. In the meantime, please help by keeping Biden and Kennedy busy. They’re easily distracted, just show them something shiny every now and then. Oh, and I should let you know about Mr. Biden. If you take him outside and sees a hole in the ground, he’s very likely to get confused and scared. Thanks.
Nope, did a search. Not found anywhere.
I worked on construction sites all thru high school and college for a mechanical contractor. Of all the 100's (1000's) of contractors and laborer, I NEVER SAW ONE WOMAN working in any trade on any worksite. The only woman I saw was one time the "roach couch" was operated by a woman.
We in America have a long way to go as well, Mr. Biden said.”
Delusional.
We lead the world in opportunities for women.
LOL . Exactly what I thought they were thinking about Biden .
My fault. Yesterday's stories were from other publications. Anyway, some of the comments were funny.
We in America have a long way to go as well, Mr. Biden said.
Making such statements as this as a representative of the US is insulting to US citizens and fosters negative attitudes about the US in other countries. The “national whoopee cushion” is not the only bad ambassador for the US but he is the second highest ranking.
That’s funny!
Actually, that was his pick-up line.
LOL!
How,cogent, how intelligent. My goodness that ranks right up there with “does your chewing gum lose it’s flavor on the bed post overnight”. Biden once again enhancing the world’s opinion of America!
“”We in America have a long way to go as well””
What a bore!! What is holding women back in this country? This is the 21st Century Joe, not the 18th! Wake up
His next question was: “So, how much to Geishas make these days?”
