Illinois high school requires parents to self-identify as liberal or conservative
An assignment sent home from an Oak Forest, IL high school government class is raising eyebrows among parents who are shocked by the questionnaire they and their children are required to fill out. The questionnaire (below) has the parents identify their positions on a number of highly-charged issues, and then places them on a "political spectrum."
The survey is part of Oak Forest High School's Common Core curriculum, which according to the school district's website is to ..."provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them."
UPDATE: The questions are from "The Center for Learning," which publishes the textbook "U.S. Government 2." The book's description says in Unit 1, it delves into general political philosophies, parties, and presidential elections. More about the Center and book HERE.
TOPICS: Books/Literature; Education; Government; Society
KEYWORDS: commoncore; communism; conservatism; constitution; democrats; fascism; govtabuse; illinois; libarals; obama; publicschools; schools; socialism; statesrights; students; teachers; tyranny; unions

Indoctrination continues.
Special “education” will be given to kids of conservative parents.

I'd fill it out after I got a copy of the Principal's and teachers' responses.
Let's throw in the School Board and other administrators for good measure.

Yet another major reason to home school or send your kids to Church schools. A question for my Catholic brothers and sisters (just curious, not being antagonistic) - what is position of Catholic schools on Common Core?
To: KeyLargo
We did the same thing when I was in elementary school, 25 years ago.

I really don't get the point of this exercise as it relates to a government class. The statements themselves should be topics discussed from both sides of the political spectrum. For instance unregulated free enterprise can hurt both the rich and the poor. Government regulation can also hurt the poor and help the rich, there are many examples of this. Government controlled economy hurts everyone with the exception of the government in control. Is open and honest debate dead in this country?

So happy my kids attend a private Catholic school! We don’t have to deal with this common core crap!

I think some rather colorful write-in answers would be called for. Or maybe just return a post-it note “Thanks, but to make that survey even more useful in the future, please print on softer paper.”

Did anyone read the form?
Who is the "Center of Learning" at the bottom of the form?
A Soro's / Tides Foundation type or sub group?
How and why are they using their forms?

I would return the questionnaire...in an envelope, in pieces, wrapped in a photocopy of the US Constitution. That should give them the answer they are looking for.

Wonder if the IRS will get this information.

Howsabout:
I don’t know.
I can’t recall.
I don’t remember.
If it’s good enough for the head of the IRS, it’s good enough for your school.
Do you have guns in your home...NO!
