You sound like My old Sensei, and I truly mean that as a compliment. Let Me settle down from the previous post a bit and compose a proper reply after a short pause...

"...single-DIGIT IQ..."

Fuming Whilst Typing not recommended, indeed. Dunno why that dobie could not understand the original post to begin with. It's not like it was written in cursive or some such!

don’t know about licenses, but Stevenson WA is very nice. No income tax and shop in OR with no sales tax. On the Columbia River. Half the rainfall of Portland.

They'll be on microfiche records somewhere, and probably on computer records, somewhere.
If not, then I guess that makes you "illegal" .

*laugh* That is truly funny. Microfiche did not exist when the county records were destroyed. I know: I researched for years. Just as a quick note: I am of mixed ancestry, and the various clans I am related to would laugh themselves silly at the thought of I being "illegal", plus at least a decade of service (not to mention the threat of Involuntary Recall) in the Military should give pause to most that might have any reservations about any loyalties. *grin*

Some organization has a copy of that birth record, that you've been a member of, at one time or another.
Either in a driver's License record, back on your very first driver's license, or if you've ever a member of the military, or State National Guard or Reserve.
Someone will have a computer copy of it, and I'd bet ever your first tax filing might give you a hint of where to look.
If you've ever been in a hospital, try that hospital, or the insurance company that paid that hospital bill.

The reasons I have for considering a move out of this State are ones I have been contemplating for some time. Merely addressing one for the moment pretty much boils down to the necessity of having a "License" for everything. Need to operate a motor vehicle to get from one place to another? You must have a "Driver's License". Purchasing a boat? You must have it licensed. Purchasing a Motorcycle? License. Moped? License. Bicycle, especially motorized Bicycle? License. Need a Trailer to transport any of the above? License. Trailer Home? License. Aircraft of any sort, including Piper Cubs, Helicoptors, and Ultralights? License. Starving and want to fish in a stream or river to catch something to eat? License. Not to mention Firearms, and the new laws that mandate "Registration" for all firearms including longarms such as all rifles and shotguns, and a "CCW Permit" along with that.

These are just a few of the reasons I am more and more deciding to "go Galt". My recent experiences at the State DMV merely rubbed salt in a festering sore that leaves Me more and more certain that I can not agree to abide by all the ever-increasing burdens the government, including county, state, and federal are placing on us merely for a source of revenue. As such, I might as well decide now where I will have the greatest opportunity for freedom while even a part of it exists. Before that too is taken away.

The increasing likelihood that this will sooner or later turn into a "sanctuary state" with favouritism biased towards the Illegals simply makes it all the more likely that I need to find another place which places more adherence to the Constitutional tenets upon which this country was founded upon. Not to mention that the governmental deliberate dismissal of tenets such as "Shall Not Be Infringed" makes a mockery of what our founding fathers believed in. Whether it be purchasing a firearm, building your own house, construcing your own boat, driving a motor vehicle, or repairing an electrical fault in your own home -or even attempting to set up a soapbox to state your personal opinions or even put up a bloody lemonade-selling stand, you need a "License" or at the very least a "Permit".

As far as health... well, I think perhaps I need to decide where I am probably going to end up for good now while I have even a slight chance of making a change if I need to. Weather does indeed remain a factor, witness My continuing refusal to relocate to any of the southernmost states such as Florida (or Lower California).

At the same time I realize that the laws for possessing the means to protect ourselves from a government gone rogue and uncaring of the rights spelled out for our Constitutional Republic are fast approaching a fatal event horizon, much as I am pained to admit it.

Unless you are an Illegal Alien or common street thug / gang member, that is. Illegal Alien? Sure, have free welfare, healthcare, Educational provisions including NonResident Student Grants! Heck, Here is a Driver's License and Lawyer's Diploma! It's not like you are a normal law-abiding citizen obligated to obey our laws, after all!

I am beginning to go off on a rant, I see, so I will simply add the following:

If I decide to move, I must make an informed decision as to where I will permanently wind up. Frisco, Los Angeles, or New York are not acceptable for many reasons.

Where I finally decide to stay, even if it is simply locally but as far away from town as possible, there must I know that I can gladly stand and say: "Enough". With that simple belief, that I am looking most positively at simply living life and not worrying about what other insane laws might be crafted in the myriad centres of government at all, I know I will be at peace.

*sigh* I shall try to explain once again. (not a personal attack, by the way). The town in which I currently dwell much of the time within is very poor. There are a total of two streetlights in the town, along the main road which is also the main highway leading into and out of town. Which is actually slightly better than the first tiny town I lived in when I moved into this area. That one had a total of four actual stopsigns -not stoplights! None of which was on the main road going through town.

Here, we have two grocery stores. Two petrol stations. Three banks, one of which exists only in this county. One Post office, which does not offer free home mail delivery. You are not a government agency, you need to get a PO Box.

The local paper where I grew up had a daily edition, and the Sunday edition was the most read because it had the greatest sales ads in it, despite it being a complete waste of ink for a blatantly biased and unapologetically leftwing rag. Here, there is ONE newspaper, issued every Wednesday, with a typeface at least three times the one I was used to in San Jose. Large pictures as well. There is NO "Sunday" edition.

Now extrapolate that back to the mid-1900s. Microfiche might have existed somewhere, along with V-12 engines, functional stoplights, anything other than a Chevy or Ford car or truck, or any plumbing beyond that necessary for an outhouse or an outdoors wringer-washer if you could afford it. Assuming you were one of the lucky few that could afford electricity.

Anything other than that, well, you might read about it in the Encyclopedia Brittanica at the county library, or hear about it in school, but it certainly did not exist in the rural areas. You might have wanted some of the newer technology, but the money to pay for it was certainly not within whatever meagre excuse for a budget the local county was able to scrape together.

If I were you, I'd start my research for a copy of the lost birth document here,
and I start at the nearest Consolidated Base Personnel Office (CBPO), at their Customer Service area.
Explain to them, your problem and ask them where to start to find or get a copy of your "lost" document.

That is an excellent suggestion and I sincerely thank you for mentioning it. Why didn't I think of that? Other than the appearance that we must have served in different branches of the service, your suggestion reminds Me of something I should have remembered long ago. Namely, that I was required to provide all manner of documentation when I first enlisted, and also underwent a background investigation before I was accepted. Hopefully, some of the documentation I provided back then still exists somewhere.

I believe I shall start with the local Veteran's Service Representative here in town and see what I can discover.

Thanks again.

Sounds like you’re well on your way now to “recovering that LOST document” .

Yes! Thank you very, very much again! I might not find much at all depending upon exactly how much was archived vs how much was merely signed off on, but at least you have pointed out a method upon which I might have an opportunity to rediscover some lost information, especially if I obtain copies of the “background check” records from so long ago. *smile*

Based on WHEN you enlisted or got your commission, the FBI would probably have a copy of that background investigation, also.

No doubt everyone on this forum will agree with everything in your post about the ever-increasing burdens the government is placing on us, the only differences among us are our attitudes and how we react to such a reality.

The overall trend of the country has been steadily moving left. What differences you can find in the states are just a matter of degree. Freedom in one area may be offset by restrictions in other areas. And what freedom people still enjoy today can be gone tomorrow. The point is, there is really no place within the country to escape the tyranny of government.

Sure, you can read everything about a particular locale, but it is not an informed decision until you have actually spent time living there, especially when you’re talking about a permanent move.

So what if you have to stay put in CA? Just get it out of your mind the pasture in greener elsewhere. Maybe all you need is find a different place to live or move to another part of the state.

You probably won’t be satisfied with the above if your mind is set thinking you have to make a major move now or never. So here is something profound that truly befits the image of a sensei, though I am not the author, just paraphrasing:

- Life is supposed to be full of irritations/challenges/adversities; (You will never find a person without a problem in his life. If you do, it means you don’t know the truth about the person).

- Our goal in life is therefore to get through it in one piece; and strive to be happy or at least at peace instead of kicking and screaming (not referring to you) or even blaming the Almighty. It is easier to do that if we remember to always go with the flow and not sweat the things we cannot control (country going left and tyrannical government definitely fall in this category).
