AL:Needed - Photo of Alabama Rest Stop Sign Prohibiting Weapons
Gun Watch ^ | 6 January, 2013 | Dean Weingarten

Posted on 01/05/2014 6:32:28 PM PST by marktwain

It has been reported that Alabama has posted their rest stops with signs prohibiting weapons. The signs are reported to read:

No weapons allowed past this point

I am writing an article about it, which would benefit from an actual picture of one of the signs, but I have not been able to acquire one yet.

If you are traveling where  you might see such a sign, I would appreciate it if you would take a picture and send me one. You can send the picture in an freepmail to marktwain.

A short note mentioning when and where the picture was taken would be helpful. I will gladly credit you with the picture if you so desire.

I supposed in GA, it’s more liberal (relaxed) than NC. There’s a waiting period here.

I don’t carry a concealed weapon, but I would feel safer if these ridiculous signs weren’t everywhere.

I’m sorry. I meant to say I sent an email to the person requesting your photo. I copied your post exactly and included a link to this thread. I also pointed out that you were post #6.

Missouri solved this problem by just tearing down all the rest area buildings. Now they’re just parking lots with no facilities.

Rest stops on interstate highways are generally federal property or easements, not state property. However, the state police or highway patrol have enforcement jurisdiction over them.

That is incorrect. While most interstates and many other highways are Federally funded, they are the property of the state, district, territory, or commonwealth that they are located in. The United States government does not own any highways.

As an Alabamian, I certainly cannot conceive of anyone actually paying attention to the signs.

That sign does not affect us. Just carry concealed making sure these is no print. Ignore it and all gun free zones. They ignore your right to protect yourself and don’t give it a second thought. Time to ignore all gun free zones. What they don’t know obviously won’t hurt them. They feel protected by a sign...I am protected by other, less visible means.

Hope you don't mind my edit. I'm the same way. Carry everywhere. Screw the signs.

I live in Asheville, NC - these signs are everywhere. They are very annoying. Do people seriously think if someone has nefarious intentions, that they will see this sign and turn around and not do as planned?

Isn’t Ashville infested with leftoids?

Asheville is a very quirky place, and there are a lot of lefties here, for sure.

But, it’s a very nice place to live...the irony is, if I could imagine what life was in 1950’s America, that is the life we have here in Asheville.

Also, I live in South Asheville, which is not as left as the downtown areas.

Did you read my comment? I said federal property OR easements. The interstate highway system is a federal easement, and was set up that way be Eisenhower for the purpose of federal transportation, especially of military assets during times of crisis.

The FHWA administers the federal highway system, including funding same and working with state and local governments federal to maintain and operate them. The FHWA also administers the federal land highways (i.e., those federal highways that are on federal land, and thus are federally- owned highways). The former example is the easement; the latter is the ownership.
