The Polar Vortex Thing Sounds too "Wag the Doggish" for me

The country is under attack by a record breaking cold wave with subzero temperatures we haven't heard about since, well...the first half of the twentieth century, which must seem strange to all you well coddled millennials out there, but yes....it use to get really...really cold when I was growing up in the 1950s.

And wait until you hear what it was like when my father was growing up in the 1920s and the local salt water river that flows into the city from the Atlantic froze solid. But I know its hard to conceive of something like that when all you ever learned from science class was the importance of "recycling our trash" because of the evil oil companies and those stupid conservatives.

“77-78 was ugly for sure.”

Yes it was, that was the worst I can remember in NYC. Usually, no matter how much it snows the streets and sidewalks are clear in a few days, maybe a week. NY has steam pipes that run under the streets and just so much foot traffic that it goes away. That year it all just stayed.

It was like a frozen garbage dump.

It's called Arctic Blast!

That would be the term I remember. I just looked up vortex in the dictionary:

vortex: 1. A mass of whirling gas or liquid, esp when sucked spirally toward a central axis; a whirlwind or whirlpool. 2. Any action or state of affairs that is similar to a vortex in violence, force etc

FWIW, I haven't been vortexed yet.

Jim created a Pimp My Blog category, Bloggers & Personal.
No one is forced to click a Blog Pimp Blog.

And yes, it would be nice if they posted their article to discuss as opposed to trolling for website hits.

Not all Blogger are bad, as long as they stay in their pen.

We piled extra blankets on the beds last night and put the heater at 62. It was still cycling frequently when we woke up at 6am so we cut it down to 60 for several hours till the sun was really up and warmish. Fortunately we blew in 15 extra bales of insulation in the attic last year. We could really tell a difference yesterday and last night.

Why the big deal made over bloggers?

They are what journalists used to be.

I think FR welcomes bloggers, not blog hits.
It is requested that the full text be posted to not require clicking beyond FR.

It’s a lot easier doing it on my blog where I know how to post the photos correctly and the links which are just as important as the article. I’ve already spent hours on the article. Why should I spend more setting it up for Free Republic. Besides, I don’t think it is “pimpish” to want to attract readers to my blog. I’ve been posting on FR for several years now and every once and a while some one like you has to make a big deal out of it. It’s called entrepreneurship my friend. I thought you guys on FR supported capitalistic ventures.

They are what journalists used to be.

Journalists used to rip off material and video and present them as their own?

Then they've always sucked, because that is exactly what bloggers do.

Yes, that's my opinion.

To correct you.

Land up in the courts.

Good thing Michael Mann doesn’t play hockey. He wouldn’t have a blade on his stick. More tree data to ignore/throw out.

I agree, with the state of MSM these days, bloggers play a key role in getting the real news & the truth.

The main issue on FR,it seems, is a lot of them excerpt their blog for the purpose of website hits as opposed to discussing their post.

I've seen a few bloggers that only post an excerpt of their blog and never, ever enter into any discussion.

First, here’s what The Boss has to say:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/2636843/posts?page=552#552

Second, I can show you how to copy your entire post, graphics and all, in less than three minutes. If you’re serious, then simply hover over your article and right click.

When the menu appears select “View Source.”

Paint the source code you want to post complete with the graphic links. Hit “Copy.”

Paste them in your FR post.

You’re done.

>>>Polar Vortex just a new name for Arctic Clipper, Polar Express, Cold Front, etc,

Polar vortex is not a new name to meteorologists...only to some in the public. It's the polar vortex moving southward that brings the polar express but not necessarily any old cold front. What the polar vortex moving southward does is allows for a colder " source region" to be tapped. A cold front may have pacific air or Canadian air. When the polar vortex moves south, it allows the Alaskan, polar or Siberian air to be tapped and drawn southward.

Every time you have ever heard the word "arctic front," know the polar vortex was involved. 1977, 1983,1985,1989 and others...including now.
