The Polar Vortex Thing Sounds too "Wag the Doggish" for me

The country is under attack by a record breaking cold wave with subzero temperatures we haven't heard about since, well...the first half of the twentieth century, which must seem strange to all you well coddled millennials out there, but yes....it use to get really...really cold when I was growing up in the 1950s.

And wait until you hear what it was like when my father was growing up in the 1920s and the local salt water river that flows into the city from the Atlantic froze solid. But I know its hard to conceive of something like that when all you ever learned from science class was the importance of "recycling our trash" because of the evil oil companies and those stupid conservatives.

Yup, know all that, weather nerd I am.

But the deal now is that they are all using *polar vortex* as the new *beat the drum* buzz word du jour.

I just find that kind of humorous.

It just whined to have it’s post removed. That’s how much it cared.

>>>I just find that kind of humorous.

LOL...you have no idea. We out here in the weather field....real operational meteorologists not the grant backed "professors" are really having a laugh. The fact that they are acting like its new....or actually caused by global warming is a hoot.

But at the same time its frustrating and sad. As I said on a previous thread, the thing that frustrates us the most is that so many of the media and scientists seem to have an issue with long-term memory. It's funny that every time an arctic front comes down they forget about 1983 when the ears froze off cattle in North Dakota...or 1899 when Galveston Bay froze over and people walked to the Bolivar Peninsula.

Gosh, I guess the message wasn't as important as the blog hits.

I'm disillusioned unto tears.

My son, who is up at college in the Northeast told me he remembers when the snow was up to his chest. He is telling me this is all crap because the snow is only at his knees.

I told him he grew three feet since he was six years old. His response? “oh.”

Yup, 100k for college well spent.

Wow, it really looks like SoCal is the place to be to avoid these pesky vortexes.

That’s also why it was colder when you were young.

Warm air rises. Back then you were closer to the ground.

I think FR welcomes bloggers, not blog hits.
It is requested that the full text be posted to not require clicking beyond FR.

I will never understand the Great Respect paid to leftist “official” media here, while blogs are second class. Who cares if someone clicks onto a blog? Blog posts I read here come in at roughly 50% good or interesting. MSM doesn’t have nearly those great odds.

I live about 25-30 miles away from the Gulf in south Louisiana and can remember as a kid, old timers talking about there being more than a foot of snow down here.
I'm 67 and have never seen more than 1 1/2" in my life here.
Can't imagine more than a foot of snow.
Takes a real special setup to get any measurable snow down here, cold air already in place and a low forming off the coast of Texas and moving kind of quick to the northeast over us.
Usually at night, so that the temps are still low enough.
One of them *Gulf Vortexes*, LOL.

Thanks, I’ll consider that the next time, but I still will include a link to my blog.I have the right to do that. I already reported the guy who copied my post without my permission, it’s my right to do so also. The visual presentation is just as important as the words I use, and I don’t ever recall reading anything on this sight that was very pleasing to look at.

You make an excellent point.
I’m not sure what the underlying criteria is.

I live south of Houston...about 20 miles from the Gulf. It really does take a special setup. We were VERY BLESSED to have a Christmas snow in 2004. We got 8" at the house. It was incredible and what really sticks out is it was one of the only times I can ever recall most of my neighbors being outside at the same time...like a block party. Really cool.

That's what it says in that link I gave you.
Did you read it? All of it?

"I already reported the guy who copied my post without my permission, it’s my right to do so also."

Yes, I'm sure everyone noticed how you acted to protect your "excerpt" and drive hits to your blog.

"The visual presentation is just as important as the words I use, and I don’t ever recall reading anything on this sight that was very pleasing to look at."

You're a writer?

Really?

From your blog:

"Defending Life, Liberty, and the Constitutional Right to own Private Property"

You have right to your property but not mine. Your attitude toward FR and our posters suck.

bye.
