I understand your disgust and I no longer self-identify as a Republican, either. I’ve never lived in a state with party registration and I’d be awfully tempted to do as you’ve done, but the one place we have an opportunity to affect change is in the primaries.

If primary voting requires you to be registered with a party, please reconsider. Participate in that, then abstain or vote 3rd party in the general if you end up with an unpalatable RINO on the ticket.

I think it’s important to vote in the primaries tho. Not doing so disqualifies you from complaining about who’s on the ballot. ;-)

“, I can just refuse to vote. “

Obama and the Dems thank you.

Give me something to vote for

I owe NOTHING to the Republican Party. They do not own my vote. You can be their bloody poodle if you want, I refuse.

They are two sides of the same coin as far as I can tell.

Romney was no better than Obama. Heck, everyone knew he was lying about at least half his “beliefs” during the campaign.

Why would I vote for that?

Even many Romney supporters here admitted he was likely lying about his positions. I am not going to vote for someone who tell me bald-faced lies to my face.

No it doesn't. Not when the primaries are all but wrapped up before it even reaches the conservative states.

In the presidential election, yes. There are other elections to consider too, tho.

Why would they thank me? My refusal to vote for either lefty had zero affect on the election.

A independent vote is a vote for a democrat.

I support your decision.

I’ve been a registered Republican since 1971.

Only one time in 43 years have I voted against a Republican - in Oregon, when I voted for a moderate Libertarian against a pathetic RINO for a state office, which didn’t matter since the RINO lost in a landslide.

I’m not sure I’m ready to leave the GOP, but from now on, just like you, if I don’t have real Conservatives to vote for, I’m staying home on election day.

One of the first things I did when I turned 18 was to register as an independent. 40+ years later, I’m still an independent. I also voted third party in 1972, 1992 and 2012. And I’ve never once voted for a Democrat, although I’ve voted for candidates that were from other parties or were independent.

If the Republican party wants my vote they will have to earn it by electing candidates I would not be embarrassed to vote for and not have to hate myself for later.

If we get enough conservatives to drop the GOP label, maybe these politicians will start trying to cater to us?

I didn’t vote for Romney. It wouldn’t have mattered if I did. Hussein would have won the Peoples’ Republik’ of Kalifornistan anyway. The Republican party walked away from me. I’m sure as heck not going to continue to support a party that would abandon me and its core principles.
