You can use SILVER

The Rediscovery of a Super Antibiotic?
Colloidal silver appears to be a powerful, natural antibiotic and preventative against infections. Acting as a catalyst, it reportedly disables the enzyme that one-celled bacteria, viruses and fungi need for their oxygen metabolism. They suffocate without corresponding harm occurring to human enzymes or parts of the human body chemistry. The result is the destruction of disease-causing organisms in the body and in the food.

While studying regeneration of limbs, spinal cords and organs in the late 1970s, Robert O. Becker, M.D., author of The Body Electric, discovered that silver ions promote bone growth and kill surrounding bacteria. The March 1978 issue of Science Digest, in an article, “Our Mightiest Germ Fighter,” reported: “Thanks to eye-opening research, silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine. An antibiotic kills perhaps a half-dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650. Resistant strains fail to develop. Moreover, silver is virtually non-toxic.” The article ended with a quote by Dr. Harry Margraf, a biochemist and pioneering silver researcher who worked with the late Carl Moyer, M.D., chairman of Washington University’s Department of Surgery in the 1970s: “Silver is the best all-around germ fighter we have.”

Honey: its medicinal property and antibacterial activity

Indeed, medicinal importance of honey has been documented in the world’s oldest medical literatures, and since the ancient times, it has been known to possess antimicrobial property as well as wound-healing activity. The healing property of honey is due to the fact that it offers antibacterial activity, maintains a moist wound condition, and its high viscosity helps to provide a protective barrier to prevent infection. Its immunomodulatory property is relevant to wound repair too. The antimicrobial activity in most honeys is due to the enzymatic production of hydrogen peroxide. However, another kind of honey, called non-peroxide honey (viz., manuka honey), displays significant antibacterial effects even when the hydrogen peroxide activity is blocked. Its mechanism may be related to the low pH level of honey and its high sugar content (high osmolarity) that is enough to hinder the growth of microbes. The medical grade honeys have potent in vitro bactericidal activity against antibiotic-resistant bacteria causing several life-threatening infections to humans. But, there is a large variation in the antimicrobial activity of some natural honeys, which is due to spatial and temporal variation in sources of nectar.

Thus, identification and characterization of the active principle(s) may provide valuable information on the quality and possible therapeutic potential of honeys (against several health disorders of humans), and hence we discussed the medicinal property of honeys with emphasis on their antibacterial activities.

The End of Antibiotics and the Rise of Iodine as an Effective Alternative

Iodine - a Pillar Against Infections

Iodine offers a serious and potent replacement for much of the antibiotics that are literally destroying people’s lives and can be used safely with children. Parents, who chose not to dose their kids with dangerous vaccines will be glad to know that iodine can be very effective against a host of viral infections that medical officials insist threaten children.

Though it kills 90 percent of bacteria on the skin within 90 seconds, its use as an antibiotic has been ignored. Iodine exhibits activity against bacteria, molds, yeasts, protozoa, and many viruses; indeed, of all antiseptic preparations suitable for direct use on humans and animals and upon tissues, only iodine is capable of killing all classes of pathogens: gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, yeasts, viruses and protozoa. Most bacteria are killed within 15 to 30 seconds of contact.

Iodine is by far the best antibiotic, antiviral and antiseptic of all time - Dr. David Derry

I’ve seen suarkraut mentioned here on FR as good for flu etc. I did some searches. It’s not the store bought or cooked, but home made uncooked that has the great probiotics. I didn’t realize how easy it was to make either.

Maybe I need to say it plainer? While I said silver does have antibiotic properties but like almost anything that can do some good or even excellent in certian control or niche there are always snake oil charlatans that promote this good in to something that they are not and many sufer for trusting them. Is that plain enough? LOL!!!!

“Silver certainly has anti-biotic properties, but I am not and will not endorse the ingestion of heavy metals.”

Sir, do your homework. ChicagoLady has it right. Silver is not in the category of ‘heavy metals’. Silver is an antibiotic. And doctors have used silver nitrate in the eys of the newborn for years to prevent certain venereal diseases. Bacteria and Viruses do not become immune to the beneficial effects of silver.

If Sir Alexander Fleming had not given us Penicillin many years ago, we would still be using silver and iodine, along with magnesium chloride and a few other basic emergency room medicines to prevent serious disease outbreaks and to cure emergency situations.

Magnesium chloride tonic at therapeutic dosing cured polio. In 24 to 48 hours. Google it. The info is there. Iodine cures disease, makes polluted water safe to drink. Reverses the poisoning effects of fluorides, such as is in our municipal water supplies. Iodine can help reverse the clogging of arteries.

Another neglected medicine is vitamin C. Megadoses. All animals except primates (includes humans) and guinea pigs make their own vitamin C...in megadoses when it is needed. Liposomal Vitamin C allows us to take megadoses orally without the downside of loose stool, and it is immediately into the blood stream and available to the cells. More miracle medicine.

We could go on...allopathic medicine has no treatment for seriously damaged or diseased livers. Alpha Lipoic Acid, Milk Thistle Extract, and Selenium work together to regenerate the liver and other organs. No antibiotic can do what this triple antioxidant combination can do.

As a preventative, I would recommend Vitamin D3 at about 10,000 iu per day. Not toxic. Better than a flu shot. Better than any vaccine.

I could go on, but this is a good introduction to what ‘natural medicine’ can do if allopathic medicine’s tools are not available or are ineffective.

Thank you for posting the links to Dr Bones articles. However, when the SHTF many will not have access to conventional antibiotics, especially not in any kind of quantities, and many of these antibiotics will prove ineffective because of bacterial resistance (viruses are not affected by antibiotics).

It is easy for anyone to stockpile the natural things like colloidal silver, iodine, magnesium chloride, etc in preparation for the comming collapse. Not so easy to find the antibiotics that might not be effective anyway.

“argyria” does not result from using colloidal silver at antibiotic/therapy doses. If silver has any effect on causing this, it is from ionic silver, not colloidal silver. I use colloidal silver. Many I know use it in rather high therapeutic doses. We use colloidal silver that is truly colloidal. Colloidal silver is life-saving.

I have done my homework sir thank you very much. Having done so I deed silver as a niche antibiotic at best and one which can easily lead to serious long lasting side effects. I say to you sir do your homework silver is a heavy metal which can posion and can enter the body and stay.

I will never promote silver as a primary antibiotic or a cure all as so many of silver proponents thrumpet it to be. My job as Prepper Advocate here on FR is to provide the best advice that I can and the protect as many not only from what is coming, but also from those who would prey on their fears. My warnings as to the limits of silver and the fact that they are many as I call them 'snake oil charlatans' who promote it as some sort of wonder drug will continue anytime someone tries to promote it or anything else that I deem marginial and possiblely dangerous to those who trust me to provide them with the facts.

You and chicagolady believe what you believe and that's fine with me and should you wish to post your own threads on the wonders of silver please do and let me assure you if you do I would never have the discourtesy of naysaying you on your thread or hijacking it. But this thread was about the selection, buying and storing of various convential anticbiotics not fringe medicine.

I take my being an avocate for preparedness here on FR very seriously as I see that I have placed myself as a watchman of sorts, that being so I also see myself subject to the Bible's law on such:

"But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone's life, that person's life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood."Ezekiel 33:6

You are correct about colloidal silver and the silver people need to promote that elsewhere if they promote it at all (which they shouldn't). Not long ago, I saw a person who was permanently blue all over his body from taking that and it is not reversible once it happens. A body should not have that in it. As an EMT in a shtf situation, I would never have a person/patient take that. I keep and preserve regular antibiotics with instructions as to their use.

Manuka Honey from New Zealand does have an antibiotic effect due to the bees only taking nectar from Manuka plants in that specific area. I have a jar of that for shtf wound healing. It is that honey used by a wound clinic on Jim Robinson that allowed him to keep his right leg for a few years longer before it had to be removed. No antibiotic was healing the wound on the leg and amputation was the next plan until he was sent to this wound clinic for that to be tried and it worked to keep the wound manageable for a few years.

It was that wound clinic using that honey to help Jim that had me investigate that and get a jar. It is quite expensive. The more concentrated, the more the cost. “Active MGO 400+ (Old 20+) Manuka Honey 100% Pure by Manuka Health New Zealand Ltd” on Amazon.

From the Mayo Clinic article at post #23:

"It's not clear how much colloidal silver may be harmful, but it can build up in your body's tissues over months or years. Most commonly, this results in argyria (ahr-JIR-e-uh), a blue-gray discoloration of your skin, eyes, internal organs, nails and gums. While argyria doesn't pose a serious health problem, it can be a cosmetic concern because it doesn't go away when you stop taking silver products.

"Rarely, excessive doses of colloidal silver can cause possibly irreversible serious health problems, including kidney damage and neurological problems such as seizures. Colloidal silver products may also interact with medications, including penicillamine, quinolone, tetracycline and thyroxine medications."

Drug Expiration Dates - Are they still safe to take?

http://www.drugs.com/article/drug-expiration-dates.html

From this article: The American Medical Association (AMA) concluded in 2001 that the actual shelf life of some products is longer than the labeled expiration date. The AMA stated the best evidence resides in the Shelf Life Extension Program (SLEP) undertaken by the FDA for the Department of Defense.2 The original purpose of the SLEP program was twofold: to determine the actual shelf life of stockpiled military medications for future use, and to save government dollars.5 Over 3000 lots, representing 122 different drug products, were assessed in the SLEP program. Based on stability data, expiration dates on 88 percent of the lots were extended beyond their original expiration date for an average of 66 months. Of these 2652 lots, only 18 percent were terminated due to failure. Examples of common drug products that were tested with no failures included amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, diphenhydramine, and morphine sulfate injection. Drug expiration extension dates on these products ranged from 12 to 184 months.

Another article:

New Evidence on Expiration Dates

http://www.doomandbloom.net/new-evidence-on-expiration-dates-2/

From this article:

Lee Cantrell, PharmD, from the California Poison Control System, San Diego Division, University of California San Francisco School of Pharmacy, and colleagues used liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry to measure the amounts of the active ingredients in the medications. The medicines, which had expired 28 to 40 years ago, were found in a retail pharmacy in their original, unopened packaging.

To meet US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards, an active ingredient must be present in 90% to 110% of the amount indicated on the label. Drug expiration dates are set for 12 to 60 months after production, even though many compounds can persist far longer.

In the new analysis, 12 of the 14 active ingredients persisted in concentrations that were 90% or greater of the amount indicated on the label. These 12 compounds retained their full potency for 336 months (Dr. Bones 28 years) or longer. Eight of them retained potency for at least 480 months (dr. bones: 40 years).

Looking like Lord Krishna is a side effect. It's rare, it isn't near as bad as the litany of side effects one hears a dozen times a day on ads for Rx drugs (or lawyers!) on TV.

Medicine is always navigating the shoals between killing the disease and killing the patient.

It is best left to medical professionals, and best using established treatments, but in extremis would I risk being blue vs being dead? You betcha!

That said, tetracycline (msp?), an antibiotic readily found at farming/tractor supply stores, is known to become poisonous due to actual expiration.

That’s the only one I know of thru years of watching Kart’s beneficial threads, contributed to by FReepers I’ve learned to respect.

The rest I would trust to last well beyond the printed expiration with reasonable storage practices (kept cool & dry), the most harm being decreased potency without turning poisonous.

Regarding honey as a topical ointment, what’s commonly available in your local grocery has been pasteurized, which neutralizes its beneficial properties. Best to find a bee-keeper you know to obtain directly or follow Marcella’s recommend. (If I’m wrong about pasteurization, I’d welcome the correction from any knowledgeable FReeper.)

I rarely post but again - thank you to Kartographer & other longtime contributors who take the time to share their wisdom.
