In 2013, the immigrant rights movement’s objective was to pass a comprehensive bill that included a special path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants. The year finished, however, without a legislative win. In light of a crisis of record deportations and family separation, we must revisit our priority in the new year. Our new priority must be securing immediate relief to stop deportations, not a “citizenship-or-nothing” political stance.
From lobbying members of Congress to infiltrating detention centers and stopping individual deportations, we have each done our part to make this movement stronger, advance the rights of the immigrant community, and rekindle the fire of the American Dream.
Despite all the hard work that we did last year, we cannot ignore that we did not pass comprehensive immigration reform. Instead, we are nearing an alarming two million deportations under the Obama administration; saw U.S. Citizen children carry signs asking for parents to be released from private immigration prisons; ICE coming to work-sites taking parents whose only crime was to provide food on the table.
As leaders, we need to have the humility to reassess our strategy and make changes when something is not working. The stakes are too high to continue with the same flawed strategy. If President Obama halted deportations, then we could fight for a direct path to citizenship. Family separation from deportations, however, makes it difficult to continue with the same demand and strategy.
We were all exuberant from the 2012 elections results: Tea party’s defeats, including Mitt Romney’s loss due to his “self deportation” stance, would finally move the Republican party to act on immigration legislation. We felt confident that we could achieve comprehensive immigration reform with a special path to citizenship for all eleven million undocumented immigrants.

These activists carry around 3rd world attitudes towards being a nation laws. To them they see nothing wrong with stealing American citizens personal information. As long it provides for them, the only crime was to provide food on the table. No laws have been broken when illegals drive without licenses and insurance. The vehicles are only being used to provide food on the table.As an America citizen they think it is your duty to see illegal aliens as victims.The same mouth pieces never say anything about what their home countries are doing about illegal immigration.Never see any protests.Never see do not deport my father or mother in Mexico.In Mexico they are ok with how Mexico's immigration laws as in doing so it means more for them.

Before even getting into details of what the "new & improved" immigration system should look like the politicians in DC need to do two things.
1. Demonstrate that any new enforcement system will be enforced.
2. Listen to the American people about what they want from an immigration system. Illegals have nothing of value to say about this aspect.
The politicians have been putting the cart before the horse on this subject for years and seem willfully ignorant that it is their own actions that make any discussion of immigration reform toxic.
Obama needs to stop deportations so illegals can focus on forcing congress to pass amnesty, the above says.
But it may be the opposite, the deportations could be to keep pressure on hispanics to demand real amnesty be passed into law.

Recall at a CA immigration rally recently some Latino *immigrants* demanded that he stop deportations and he told them to lobby congress for immigration reform.
Pipe dream. They been chug-a-lugging too many cheap tequila shots.
That was a year ago too, last January.
Dems were sure the GOP would do whatever Obama demanded, and especially amnesty due to fear of Hispanic voters.
But as time dragged on many in the GOP couldn't figure what good would come of an amnesty bill.
It wasnt clear that amnesty would win GOP ANY Hispanic votes and if it passed Obama would get all the credit anyways.
Dems need Repubs to "overeach" so that the electorate gets at Pubs and vote Dem.
Think back to 2010---the Pubbies were incensed that Clinton got lewinskied in the Oval Office. Unbelievably that was seen as "overreaching" --- ergo, Pubbies lost ground in midterms.
Dems are getting geared up---make-up and costuming for the Kabuki Theatre they are about to unveil.
Obama in whiteface Kabuki makeup should be good for a laugh.
