Why do people want to watch movies like this? I have never understood & all these years later, I still don’t.
I have never seen “Rosemary’s Baby.” Horror movies have never really appealed to me other than the “classics” from the 1930s. But there was also the premise of this film that was repulsive to me even when it came out.
the writer incorrectly states Manson knew Roman and Tate lived at the house.
But , the facts were a record producer who met and turned down Manson at that home owned the place and moved out and rented it out just before the murder.
The producer was Doris Day’s son and his live in girlfriend was Candace Bergen .
Reportedly ,Manson thought the couple still lived there !
Then Polanski drugged and raped a 13 year old.
Yeah, but it wasn’t rape-rape.

I don’t think Rosemary’s Baby or Repulsion had anything to do with the Manson Killings. Both are classic horror films. And I wouldn’t compare Deneuve’s talent to the somewhat incompetent acting of Sharon Tate. Perhaps it was Valley of the Dolls that brought about the most horrible crime of the 1960s! Horror stories have always been with us and always will be.
It breaks my heart that Sharon Tate was obviously calling for her mother during her final moments.
Personally, I prefer the great work of those “horror” masters Val Lewton and Jacque Tournier.

You’re right re: the author being wrong about Manson knowing who was in the house. It was a rental property, and did not belong to Polanski or Tate. Manson knew about the house because Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson had once rented it, and allowed Manson & his Family to stay there for a while. They ended up taking it over, and Wilson moved out of his own place just to get away from them.
Manson later moved to the ‘ranch’ in the desert. He returned to Wilson’s former rental to commit murder [rather, to have his Family do it for him] not because he knew the identity of the current renters but because the place was a familiar one.
If it’s any consolation, LaVey, usually when drunk, would let it slip that he was a just in it for the money “and benefits”, as it were, from the endless parade of naive suckers who went out of their way to hang out with him.
Not being a fool himself, as well as a former carny (carnival worker), he was always careful to carry a gun. I have never seen the movie, nor do I ever intend to. Any time I see a depiction of a demon in print or on the screen, I turn away, as I do not want nightmares.
The writer is correct, I fear, that there are far too many dabbling in the occult.

The saddist photo I’ve seen is of a Marine honor guard standing over the coffin of a Marine killed in Vietnam, while LaVey, in his robes and getup was shaking some short of rattle over the coffin.
It appeared the Marine had claimed to be a satanist on his tags.
