President Obama, an ex-smoker, released this statement applauding CVs for stopping the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products:
"I applaud this mornings news that CVS Caremark has decided to stop selling cigarettes and other tobacco products in its stores, and begin a national campaign to help millions of Americans quit smoking instead. As one of the largest retailers and pharmacies in America, CVS Caremark sets a powerful example, and todays decision will help advance my Administrations efforts to reduce tobacco-related deaths, cancer, and heart disease, as well as bring down health care costs ultimately saving lives and protecting untold numbers of families from pain and heartbreak for years to come. I congratulate and thank the CEO of CVS Caremark, Larry Merlo, the board of directors, and all who helped make a choice that will have a profoundly positive impact on the health of our country."

"Mr. Johnson.....This is CVS. You're Marijuana prescription is ready to be picked up."
No fear of him losing his ‘suppliers’ tho.
Anyone doubt that their reimbursement payments from Obamacare will come ten times quicker than any pharmacy still selling cigarettes?
I wonder if they will lose customers by doing this?
I’ve never like the CVS pharmacy in my neighborhood-—I like Walgreen’s much better.
I’m sure he’s still smoking though.
I like CVS better than Walgreen’s but hated it when CVS bought out Long’s Drugs.
They’ll be closing stores in their chain in no time....
Former smoker my Aunt Esther!
Obama has his Cigarettes and Tobacco Products trucked in with his WEED ,no need to leave his Palace
More feel good baloney from the left.
This will not save a single life.
However, it is certainly CVS’s prerogative to not carry tobacco. But it means nothing.
Let’s see, if their motives are truly as they say, get rid of the candy, soda, ice cream, cold meds (abused) and most of the OTC drugs. And so on ad nauseum.
Well, no more CVS for me. I don’t care about the cigarettes, but if it has Obama’s support, I’m against it.
I’ll bet CVS is still stocking the morning after pill which is essentially 100% fatal.
If it was a business decision and not a political one, I applaud it too. CVS is sacrificing part of their customer base and some revenue to do this on a principle. If, however, they knuckled under to an ObamaCare mandate or the arm-twisting of the feds, I’m not so impressed.
Here’s a question. If CVS had declared that, as a matter of conscience, they decided to not supply birth control medications they deemed were abortifacients, do you think Obama and the media would applaud the decision or demand that CVS comply with the liberal worldview? I think we all know the answer to that one.
CVS is just ahead of the curve on this
Pretty sure bad diet is more damaging to American lives. The collection of ready-to-go candy/snacks/soda is more dangerous than tobacco, as it is okay to administer them to children. Each holiday is littered with sugary poisons which serve to habituate poor nutrition behaviors. If they really cared about the health of their customers, CVS should stop selling candy and snack food and sodas.
(disregard this post)
Yeah, CVS has said they expect to lose about $2 billion per year in revenue, and their Executive Vice President has said “its obvious that the average person will just find somewhere else to buy cigarettes.”
While I can’t fault CVS, a private company, for voluntarily doing what they think is right even when it will hurt their bottom line, I do wonder whether this will inspire the left to submit state and federal bills saying that stores that provide pharmaceutical or other medical services can’t sell cigarettes.
re: President Obama, an ex-smoker
Really? I thought he still smoked.
I guess Obama will no longer be buying his cigarettes at CVS.
