John Elway was a Hall of Fame quarterback as a player and now is charged by Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen to build the team's roster as an executive.
So, Elway knows what goes on in an NFL locker room as well as the decisions that are made to put the players in one. And Monday, Elway said Missouri defensive end Michael Sams announcement that he is gay would have no impact on the teams evaluation of Sam as a player or Sam's draft status with the team.

To be honest, I cannot imagine how a Christian justifies supporting the NFL. Just how long does an organization need to pee on someone before the person takes offense?
Ha ha! Sagan cracks me up! One of only a few pros who seems to have a good time doing what he does.
You know what - I think this is the first time in the history of Free Republic, that an NFL thread was hijacked by a cycling thread.... 8~)
No, that right there isn’t of the gay that I can discern!
Seriously, what would cyclists do to another that acts like a fruity jerk? “Accidentally” knock them over, gang up and block them from advancing, or what? The big problem with the NFL is that the cool players can’t police the jerks. Each game means too much and the modern officiating, penalties and replay can affect its outcome to a great degree. Thus swishy celebrations after such amazing feats as falling on a loose ball.
There’s a reason no one is making a choke sign to a pitcher after drawing a walk.
Freegards
You have to admit, for those not indoctrinated into the sport it's not a big stretch to understand how people can view it as less than masculine. This thought has occurred to me on numerous Sunday mornings as I tap dance across a cafe floor in my cleats and Lycra shorts to pay for my latte.
Frankly I don't care if the world laughs at me. About 10 years ago a friend twisted my arm to get me out with him on a local bike shop group ride. Didn't own a bike so he set up a mid 80's steel Bianchi (shifters on the down tube)for me to ride. I was a distance runner so my cardio and respiratory was in decent shape but I had not been on a bike in over a decade. 40 Miles later I thought my spleen was going to fall out. I swore I would never subject myself to that kind of torture again but, sure enough, a week went by and I was right back out with them. Hands down the most difficult yet enjoyable sport I have ever participated in.
How can Christian families allow their male children to watch NFL Football when we know that there is a gay player on the field and know the the NFL condones his playing?
What happens when young boys who play high school football discover that being gay will help them be recruited by Div. 1 schools and be praised by NFL executives?
An NFL boycott would prevent the league from signing gay players.
I must confess, I don’t care if there is a gay player in the NFL any more than I do if one is working at Sears or Burger King. That’s between the individual and their maker.
What I resent is the constant need of a minority of people to force an agenda that suits their proclivities on others as well as a seemingly willing corporate culture that has no problem helping them promote it.
Oooops! Seems like I was overdue for sleep when I posted such screwed-up stuff.
I knew it was Rentzel, but somehow the Bambi name stuck in my head!
Elway applauds him since Sam won’t be playing on the Broncos.
Might be a lot of jersey sales too for teens and others who think it will be trendy to wear Rams “Sam” jerseys.
