Why Only 24% Younger Signups In ObamaCare Might Be Worse Than You Think

Why Only 24% Younger Signups In ObamaCare Might Be Worse Than You Think According to Health and Human Services, the current health exchange pricing of monthly premiums is based on the assumption that 38% of those enrolled would be young and healthy individuals between the ages of 18 and 34. Otherwise, the costs would necessarily jump because there won't be enough healthy people to offset the cost of covering the older and sicker of our population.

When the latest enrollment numbers were released, we learned that only 24% of the enrollees were in that critical younger healthier group; a near 40% shortfall. Opponents of ObamaCare jumped on this because they know, logically, it means that the current ObamaCare premiums will have to be adjusted upwards by about a whopping 40% unless this situation is improved.

But, that 24% might be a lot worse than you think. What if that 24% isn't a healthy young group? What if it is mostly made up of younger people or younger families with serious pre-existing conditions? Right now, there are about 73.7 million Americans who are in that age group. According to Families USA, at least 15.9% of those millions of Americans -- or about 12 million people -- have serious enough health conditions that they are either not insurable or prohibitively too costly to insure. So, easily, the less than 1 million youth signups into ObamaCare thus far could have actually come out of that 12 million who are sicker. If so, we're not just looking at a 40% increase. In fact, the current exchange pricing could be actually doubled next year.

Someone needs to welcome this author to the party; he’s late. People have been talking for months about how most of the signups in Ocare are likely to be unhealthies who need the pre-existing condition coverage.

Our healthy 25 year old kids found no recourse other than OCare, reluctantly.
Non-collective plans were out of their reach, and they got subsidies to sign up for the collective. They work hard, are conservative in every way and are about to finish school debt free, but just don’t make enough to pay for a private plan.
It stinks.

Two other sticky little points;

1. Those 18 to 34 healthy enrollees need to be employed and

2. not subsidized.

Sounds like more good news for the Cloward Piven Obama collective. Collapse the system; let the painful agony grow until the populace demands that the government DO SOMETHING, and then impose total single payer government healthcare.

All I know is my tax dollars are being spent OVER AND OVER on the radio and TV in the south Florida media.

Every tv station, and much of the radio, is covered in ads trying to get children to sign up.

Disgusting.

If they are healthy and 25, why not just pay the penalty?

Well, how many of the 18-34 group are unemployed?

The product of the O_tards Socialism (Fascism?) is aimed to destroy the work ethic and the nation. Starting out in life has never been easy. In some parts of the US today it is next to impossible for young people to participate like the rest of us did.

Yes, I know there is always some opportunity for people to work. But in parts of the US, the only real solution is to move. It is a fact.

I am glad that Texas is not one of those places.

This whole “pawn the high cost of health care on the
young and healthy” stinks to high heaven of communism.
I refuse to be a communist. I will not comply. And to
hell with anyone who tries to make me.

“In some parts of the US today it is next to impossible for young people to participate like the rest of us did.’

Especially when they are forced, by our own government, to
compete with wetbacks. And the wetbacks do everything they
can to run them off the job. You should see the underhanded
things they do to citizens while the boss is not looking.
Apprenticeship is dead in the trades thanks to our government,
the criminal wetbacks and the low life scum who hire them.
If you hire a wetback you should be prosecuted to the
fullest extent of the law and have everything you own
confiscated as ill gotten gains. That is an immigration
policy I woulds support.

Yep, and the Mexican American community is one of the hardest hit groups when it comes to being displaced by the illegals.

Had a conversation one day with a Hispanic Welder and he told me that most all the pipeline welders and helpers were illegals. He also told me that he was the victim of identity theft by one.

He was not an Obama supporter. hee hee hee

The AIDS lobby is a strong backer of ObamaCare. They were uninsurable and have extremely expensive medical costs.

This whole thing is so bad I’m at the point of just trying not to think about it. Next year this time it will be twice as bad.
