Has the USA Become a Banana Republic?

One of the guiding principles of the American experiment is the rule of law and that everyone is beholden to that law. This is one of the key differences between America and all the banana republics of the world where laws change at the whims of their petty tyrants. While I acknowledge that there are times when our system hasn't lived up to its ideals, we've done a pretty good job so far. However, it's becoming increasingly obvious that our elected officials are increasingly acting like imperial wannabes and yet they seem to escape public scrutiny and censure. From the highest office of the land on down, we're resembling the chaotic madness of a banana republic.

Our biggest current offender is President Obama who chooses which laws he'll enforce and which ones he will not. He talks nonstop about him being a Constitutional scholar, but it's evident that he's never read the document that we've based our system of government on. He's been committing blatant power grabs at the expense of Congress and has intimidated the Supreme Court. His latest escapade is his tenth delay of the ObamaCare deadline, when he has no legal right to change the date. In fact, he and Kathleen Sebelius said ten days ago that there would be no more delays. Wow, another lie! There's also the ongoing IRS scandal where the Obama administration used government agencies to suppress the conservative vote and harass Tea Party groups. The IRS still refuses to hand over emails to Congress despite being under subpoena, saying it will take years to comply. Yet I know most entities can do such a thing in just a few hours.

Then we have Harry Reid, who was caught stealing $17,000 from his campaign fund to buy jewelry from his granddaughter. He even made sure that they left off the last name of his granddaughter from the campaign records, which shows that this was a deliberate attempt to lie and not a mistake. It's also strange that two companies based in Nevada gave money to his granddaughter's theater group in New York City. Hmmm. Now Harry Reid is returning the funds of the jewelry, and we all know that nothing will happen to him. Yet filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza is being prosecuted for violating campaign laws for supposedly giving friends $20,000 for donations. He faces jail time, so why doesn't Reid? It can't be that D'Souza is conservative and works against Obama? Nah.

Next we have a whole slew of Democrats getting arrested for breaking the law. We have the mayor of Charlotte, NC being arrested for bribery. We have the Speaker of the House in Rhode Island being raided by the FBI. There's a representative from Illinois being investigated for child pornography. There are other Democrats standing being arrested or standing trial. Yet you never hear of these things in the mainstream media. If you do, you'll notice that their party affiliation is NEVER mentioned. The same cannot be said for Republican lawmakers, where in those cases, it'll be headline news for days.

The point is that such actions are not ones we should accept in America. These are the actions found in third world banana republics where laws shift as quickly as the tides do. We have government officials abusing the law and the citizens. We have a complicit media shielding those of a particular party and doing their best to suppress any dissemination of the facts. I personally don't care if you're a Democrat, Republican, or anything else. If you violate your oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, you should be arrested, tried, and thrown in jail. Period. What's happening now is something that should never be in America.

The USA spends 26% of its tax-receipts simply paying interest on the national debt. That amount is rising too - and interest rates are artificially low.

Study society and politics in places like Argentina and Bolivia. Its where we are heading.

Help me here. Isn't it an axiom that third world banana republics require shooting, or some such thing?

Where's the shooting?

I might be embarrassed to meet Thomas Jefferson in Heaven.

Well, if I make it there...

Which is one reason that the Federal Reserve is "printing" $$ around the clock, 24 hours a day. It allows the government to repay its debts with "cheaper" dollars. So what if this defacto devaluation of US currency raises the prices of everything, financially pinching the US public worse and worse.

the recent big one I’ve read is that Obama refuse to prosecuted an obama voter who voted 6 times in the election and admitted to it

Yes. We have a fiat currency that is out of control. A national debt we cannot repay. A Constitution that means nothing to the President, the congress, or the courts. We have absolute lawlessness in various parts of society.

YUP! And that ‘banana’ picture still floats out there, too!

I don’t know how long to clean this mess up, but I wish we’d get started,
