“Congress Is No Place” for Farmers Statement Defended
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 28 March 2014 | John Semmens

Posted on 03/30/2014 1:39:03 PM PDT by John Semmens

Iowa Democratic Senatorial candidate, Representative Bruce Braley’s assertion that Congress is no place for a farmer has not gone over well among the state’s rural population.

“I’m not saying that farmers don’t have a meaningful role to play in our society,” Braley said in his own defense. “Obviously, someone has to grow the crops and raise the livestock to feed this nation. What I’m saying is that farmers lack the skill necessary to make our laws.”

The persons with the necessary skills, according to Braley, are lawyers. “The job of Congress is to enact laws,” Braley observed. “Lawyers are trained in the law. It should be clear that a lawyer is, by far, the most logical option for a state’s Congressional representation.”

Braley brushed off criticism from Iowa’s offended farmers as “insular and parochial. If further proof of the unfitness of farmers to serve as lawmakers was needed this is it. It could hardly be clearer that they lack the training and perspective to be entrusted with the authority to make the laws that govern our country.”

Sounds more like something Democratic politicians would actually say than satire.

Lawyers will only make laws to benefit lawyers.

Yes, because lawyers have done such a great job. Only they can write laws thousands of pages long that no one understands. [/s]

The House’s Job is also to control the Budget and clean up the Laws and make them logically consistent and germane to the current realities.

OK, am I correct in thinking that Braley dude is the only Dem in this race, so whoever the GOP nominee is will take him on in November? If so, this should be a pick-up for the GOP.

It certainly seems that way. I don’t think the candidate has been picked on the GOP side. I do like the nut ripper from SW Iowa, but sorry I can’t vote in IA.

Braley has led polls. All of them were taken before this happened.

The Farm Bill passing probably helped all Republicans in Iowa.
Iowa has voted for Dukakis, Gore, Clinton and Obama.

That would be Cantalope King, Kongressman. Guy is terrific on the issues, and a flat out jugular attack dog. Great VP potential.

No, no. Let’s be honest about it. The people with the necessary skills are crooks.

Don't forget.. Mao took the farmers and put them in the government and the teaching institutions, then took the politicians and professors to the countryside and made them work on the farms to get some ‘enlightenment’. Of course, he never let them return and he kept the farmers in the seats of power! Worked for Mao, right?

Lawyers are definitely over represented in Washington.
We definitely need more profession diversity in government, more important than color and ethnicity.
Layers only know how to make (and break) laws.
They don't even understand most of the problems they are writing laws for and we are all suffering the results.

What we need is LESS lawyers in Congress. What we need more of is businesspeople, engineers, accountants, stay at home moms, farmers, lumberjack, but not lawyers.
