LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Have you ever heard of a cell-phone gun?

It's one of the reasons Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott says his deputies were justified in snatching a Fort Myers man's cell phone.

The man was using it to record deputies searching his car.

But no one 4 In Your Corner asked -- from local fire arms experts to other police departments and even federal agencies -- seemed that concerned about the theat of cell phone guns as expressed by Sheriff Scott.

"He wasn't doing anything to threaten the officer, and he wasn't doing anything to interfere with their investigation," said the man's attorney Dave Shestokas.

Sheriff Scott disagrees, telling 4 In Your Corner in an email Monday: "The probable cause traffic stop, K-9 alert, presence of a firearm, and [the man's] lack of candor created a scenario where the potential for him to summon others to the scene via his cell phone was an officer safety concern."

Sheriff Scott went on to say: "It is a well documented fact that pagers, cell phones, and other commonly carried devices have in fact proven to be firearms."

In an effort to back up his claim. the sheriff sent Fox 4 a link to a video of a purported cell-phone gun being fired.

It was posted in 2007.

In the nearly 15 years since federal agencies first heard the devices were discovered in Europe, firearms experts tell Fox 4 cell-phone guns aren't easy to come by.

Well, he was shooting footage. That's shooting, right?
He's darn lucky it wasn't a gun-shaped pastry. That would have been really bad.

The barrels run lengthwise, not thick wise. Cute excuse.

We are getting to the point where a Nazi badge or ID card is all that is needed to allow any action without fear of the law. It is soft, but it is here now.

Cell phone guns have been around over 10 years, as I recall hearing about them.

The cellphones in use today, would make poor ‘chassis’s’ for such a thing. The older phones that had the little thumb-sized antennas actually were used, in the Middle East.

I would think that the poor cops, frightened of their civilian populace, would be fearing the ingenuous, and previously used, “plastique” inside the cellphone casing.
(The applications and installations of such things I have no knowl;edge of.) I did see this “device” demonstrated on replays of that Spike TV ‘warrior’ show.

Again, certain cops not wanting the civilians to have firearms.

Only one problem in the Sheriff's story. The guns that were spotted in Europe don't work as phones. They were gutted to accommodate a very small and inaccurate .22. All they had to do was have the guy show them the phone worked.

But we all know this had nothing to do with officer safety, don't we?

More justification for the out-of-control police to shoot anyone they want, any time, who has a cell phone. And everybody has one these days.

North American Arms makes a .22LR and Mag that snaps into a belt buckle. It is considered “open carry”, though, I believe.

I have actually never heard of a cell phone gun tho just about everything has probably been made into a gun at some time or other.

Florida seniors better really watch out. There have been plenty of walking cane guns and even swords. Next time his deputies see one of those 90 year old’s carrying a cane they should open fire on grandpa.

I’ve seen a small pocket that Al Capone had converted to shoot a single 22 bullet, it was basically the Boy Scout knife without the logo, I think he had 4 made as gifts.

The retired New York cop had it sitting innocuously on his dinner table where we were talking, it wasn’t until he came to trust me that he revealed that he had been armed all along and let me examine the grungy little knife that had been laying by his hand.

He had taken it from an assassin in a night club, who had fired it at him.

So now they can shoot the person with a cell phone (everybody) and claim that they were afraid for their life.

Fascism in motion.

It is likely to get a lot worse, unfortunately.
