While Americans typically laud our national "exceptionalism" -- a sense that the trajectory of history has bestowed greatness upon the United States -- there are a few of our distinctive characteristics that don't deserve celebration. On the subject of firearms, for example, the United States is exceptionally irrational. No other nation has set guns aside as an object of worship.
We have let a blood-soaked gun lobby dictate our laws and regulations on firearms; we have passed "stand your ground" laws that allow violent and angry men to murder unarmed people; we have given the mentally unstable the ability to buy military-style assault weapons with which they wreak havoc on crowds. Last week, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed a bill into law that would allow denizens of his state to carry firearms into government buildings, bars and, God help us, churches.
In addition, we have allowed the gun lobby to suppress research into the public health consequences of our firearms-worshipping culture. Indeed, U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga. -- running in a crowded GOP primary for a U.S. Senate seat -- has recently reversed himself, going back on an earlier pledge to support such studies. It hardly gets any loonier than that.

Ok, Clayton Williams!!!
;-)
Sorry, I didn’t have a “tab” to click for that option...
Just kidding, muh bad...You are right though...
Tucker is exceptionally dumb when it comes to EVERYTHING. Another affirmative action college diploma recipient.
It may be clear to some criminal type by now that Ms Tucker is almost certainly unarmed.
Germany about 10 million murdered by the government. USSR about 25 million murdered by the government. China about 90 million murdered by the government etc, etc, etc.
I am much more willing to take my chances with an armed populace as opposed to being unarmed against an murderous government. They second amendment is about freedom from oppression and does not have a damn thing to do with hunting.
A Pulitzer Prize blogger...hmmmmmm...
I agree, if someone could put up a sign in her yard saying her house is a gun-free zone...I wonder how long it would take to...
[leaves it to the individuals imagination]
Exceptionally Dumb is extremely accurate to be in a Cynthia Tucker headline.
One could only hope, and change that...
We should help her get the word out about her objections, get a sign put up in her yard stating this fact...
I’d pay good money to see her squirm, and her to have to take the sign down...You know, just because...
I think it’d be fun to watch...
“I stopped reading right there.”
I saw Cynthia Tucker was the author. I never got past the headline.
we have passed “stand your ground” laws that allow violent and angry men...”
Men? Just men? That’s sexist. Misandrist.
So women dont defend themselves. Tucker is a complete progressive racist asshole. Always has been always will be.
The university is a taxpayer-supported entity. Why would the university not consider the taxpaying citizens when spending their hard-earned money. Hire a dedicated and honorable scientist—this is not honorable scholarship.
“No, not worship, Veneration, maybe. But you know, the Italians have Marconi, the Greeks have Aristotle, and we have Eli Whitney!”
The Swiss have done a fair job, until they allowed the European Union to lobby on them.
It is not the guns that bring the United States higher levels of homicide. It is the violent sub cultures within the United States that most European countries do not have:

I would love to take a community college course on proper use and maintenance of handguns. I have to be careful who I even speak to about that around here though. By my unauthorized estimate, over half the population is fine with handguns or guns for hunting or skeet shooting. But the media and social institutions such as schools have demonized and mystified the very idea of guns, that some have a default position of being overcautious to any sort of guns. I just think it would be enjoyable to go target practicing. I would even consider an archery class if I find one nearby and affordable. That has nothing to do with hunger games, by the way, as I haven’t seen the first movie.
Here is the letter I sent:
“Dear Itinerant Professor Cynthia,
I have read your most recent published article about firearms.
I commend you on acting the agent provocateur, whilst attempting to emulate an American. The NKVD would be proud of you.
Yet, if you envision yourself to be an American, you just urinated on all the American military dead, with that lineage extending to those who died on Bunker Hill, as well as wishing to have urinated on me, a Vietnam and Cold War
disabled veteran.
You say other nations do not “worship” guns. Firearms, to be more precise, (guns are usually larger U.S. Army or U.S. Naval artillery pieces), are what the Colonists, as they were known as in those days, employed to sever their ties with the British Crown, since King George III refused the proverbial olive branch approach by the Colonial delegation.
It is firearms, that made the movement to The Old West possible, and therefore, the expansion, from sea to shining sea, via purple mountain majesties.
It is firearms, more precisely concealed firearms, that are carried by many Americans, in the hope not to ever use them,
but do have them, in the unwanted event that a THUG, of any race and sex, attacks them, they can protect their own life,
since we are not a nation accepting our own death as something pre-ordained, as other nations have practiced, in the past..
It is a pity that your zenith year of elite publications, occured in 2007, and not since. I, on the other hand, have been published, in various media, since I was 12, and have been published, until I declared my retirement, in 2009. That’s only 50 years of publication, compared to your, how many years, dear?
Terry L. Smith”
Now her words of wisdom appear on Yahoo uExpress.

Well half the men and a few of the women carry to my church. No mass killing here.
