After a concerned mother called 911 fearing her son was choking, an EMS worker proceeded to conduct an inspection of her house on the premise that she homeschooled, telling the woman were agents of the state.
The moment your child is complaining that his stomach hurts, then points to his chest instead, and his face is turning red and hes coughing, so you call 911. Except, when EMS gets there they laugh at you and tell you if its asthma he wont be complaining about abdominal pain (except hes NOT because hes POINTING TO HIS CHEST!!!) Then the other asks, Why arent they in school? Then proceeds to LOOK AROUND YOUR HOUSE when you tell her you homeschool!!! Seriously, people, I am not making this up! I. Am. Livid.Krista Spinks Bordelon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, called for an ambulance after her asthmatic son began complaining of chest pains and turning red in the face.

This ping list is for articles of interest to homeschoolers. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping List. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added or removed from either list, or both.
The keyword for the FREE REPUBLIC HOMESCHOOLERS FORUM is frhf.
Bordelon now says that she is super nervous having filed a complaint and is planning on joining the Home School Legal Defense Association, adding, I HATE having to feel scared for making a good choice.
That should have been her first step when homeschooling. Don't trust the government.
I’d think a finely crafted aluminum baseball-bat would be the proper response.
Easton or TPS...your choice.
“However, the situation became even worse when one of the EMS supervisors asked Bordelon why her son wasnt in school.”
The only sensible reply to that question is: “That’s none of your business.”
They represent the state and the union.
The EMS, the cop you/or EMS calls, the teacher that you are ignoring, and the reporter who will report on the story, all union.
She could have told them because he was sick. DUH!!!
Make them feel like idiots for asking. Hello, she called them for a sick child.
I’d put the dogs on ‘em.
Exactly.
Whenever someone asks me about homeschooling that’s what I tell them is the FIRST thing they should do. Especially before notifying the school district.
Cause once you’re in trouble, it’s too late to join. They will not represent you for your annual fee.
I was in EMS for more than 20 years and when responding to a 911 call you are there for one thing and one thing only and that is the care of the patient. If the kid was in obvious respiratory distress that should have been the focus of the prehospital care and transport. Unless there was evidence or the strong suspicion of abuse or drug use you aren’t looking at the home situation and even then it is up to you as an EMT/paramedic to report not investigate.
Indeed, why are rhey asking insolent questions?
Dillweeds!
I’m an agent of KYA if you try to bring your NWO crap into my home again top.;,
'Really? Then, tell the State I said, EFF OFF'
Feed the ems idiot(s) to the pigs. No trace left.
Who’s got the nanny state ping list these days?
Let’s ping nully, if he doesn’t he might know who does.
Great. Now the police are fully militarized and running around with no knock warrants and using the “drug war” to seize your property. Now, we can’t trust EMS, because they are now “agents” of the state. Firefighters I’m sure will now be turning in people for improper thought. Progressives are a horrid virus infecting everything related to government.
For reasons which would become clear in a moment, Patty had been harassed by the DeKalb County school authorities for about 6 months and, by the time she moved into the Chamblee house, had been -- unbeknownst to us -- ORDERED to put the 6 year old into the nearest government elementary school or suffer the consequences. Because she wanted the boys to be educated Christians, there was no way she was going to do that and she told them so.
At approximately 2 am one morning, a loud knock on the door announced the arrival of the aforementioned "consequences." Dressed only in a nightgown, she was confronted by several burly police officers who thrust an arrest warrant in her face. With the now awakened 6 year old watching and the 2 year old wailing in the other room, she was handcuffed and led out the door to jail. She was tossed into a large cell with a couple of hookers and a junkie who spent much of the rest of that morning vomiting in the corner. The two young boys for whom the educational authorities professed such great concern were just left AT THE HOUSE -- ALONE! Patty was later told that the bureaucrats from Children Services who were SUPPOSED to accompany the cops were late and, in their haste to get this dangerous miscreant behind bars, the cops just missed the fact that the Children Services people were, well, missing. The CS folks showed up an hour later to find two terrified kids, one of whom had just seen his mother hauled off in cuffs.
Patty was ultimately brought to trial under the Georgia Truancy Statutes. Her pro-bono attorney tore the school authorities to shreds and hers has been called THE case that opened the floodgates to home schooling in Georgia. Once they had all the facts, the jury didnt take long to acquit her. Im proud to have played a small part in that.
At Pattys trial, a previously overlooked aspect of the government schools was put into sharp focus for those paying attention: The Director of Instruction for DeKalb County testified that the then current 7 hour school day consisted of an average of approximately 3 hours or less of instruction. At that time, Patty was devoting 4 to 5 hours a day to direct instruction.
He also as much as admitted that the REAL reason they wanted ALL these kids in school was the $3,000.00 per kid per year they then got from the state and federal government. Empty seats = lost funds. As in most things, follow the money. Patty home schooled these two boys through high school.
And how did the boys turn out?
One is now a physician and the other a budding journalist.
But that now seems to be the norm for the growing legions of home schooled kids which most likely explains why the NEA and the government school folks feel so threatened. Shortly after I wrote this, a home schooled child won the last National Spelling Bee and the record is clear that home schooled kids generally perform better than those who are not.
Thomas Jefferson believed an EDUCATED PUBLIC to be the cornerstone of the system he and the other Founders TRIED to leave behind. He would NOT, I feel certain, be a big fan of the current government education system. If he returned today, hed home school his children just as he did before.
Not this time.
