By October, spurred by repeated media attacks on his age, 34 percent of Americans said that McCain was too old to be president. The sharp spike in the poll numbers over one month showed how effective the Democratic age smear was. Had McCain been elected, he would have taken office at 72. If Hillary Clinton wins, she'll be 69. And age is suddenly no longer an issue. Neither is health.
Its certainly not new.
The media portrayed Nixon as a frail old man compared to the vigorous young JFK despite the fact that Nixon was only a few years older and in considerably better health than Kennedy.
She already had her 3 AM phone call. She wasn't even as old and wrinkly as she is now, and it wasn't at 3 AM. She still blew it and has tried to hide from that fact ever since.
Hitlary has no business being POTUS no matter what age she is. She belongs in prison, not in the White House.
In his zeal to return fire, Bill Clinton inadvertently confirmed that she was incapacitated while still holding office - for fully half a year.
Naturally, we were told none of this at the time nor did any media figure wonder why she was unavailable for so long, especially given the events of that time.
I don’t blame the Democrats. If Republicans got a complete pass from the press they way the Dems do, Republicans would be just as bad or worse.
I’m no fan of McCain but the reason that he can’t lift his arms over his head is that he was severely beaten while in communist captivity, causing his arms to be permanently damaged and disfigured. This of course, means nothing to the biased yokels in the press (the Miss Qundlens, Anna Wintours (the one with the 20 year old hair on a 60 year old wrinkled head, and the Tom Brokaws) who would be afraid to walk outside alone at night, much less fight in a war or be captured by the enemy.
Both McCain and Hillary have physical and mental health issues that should be of great concern to all voters. Only their staffs and supportive “journalism” are able to make them look good in public and the press. Without Bill, Hillary would be stepping in do-do every day. McCain already does.
Of course Hillary is old and wrinkly even beyond her very advanced age; she’s a woman who has had to put up with the constant humiliation of a male-dominated world. Unlike Anna Quindlen, YOU have no idea of what “real bravery” is until you’ve been humiliated by having to work for and with men. Real “bravery” is working in a male-dominated newsroom run by a misogynist soldier in the “War on Women” like Punch Sulzberger. Its seeing your newsmagazine like Newsweek fail when you are a fabulously talented executive editor like Tina Brown and for some reason “they” blame her for its shutting down when it just had to be something with her being a woman, trying to look young and not succeeding at it. Its trying to be editor in chief of “The Times” like Jill Abrahamson while slogging by on $ 525,000 a year and being publicly disrespected and humiliated by making a whole $ 800 a year less than your male predecessor. Miss Jill is a woman and there can be no argument that she was fired only for it, it had nothing to do with the NYT’s losses every quarter (but one) since she’s been editor; as you must know, “they” never fire a man in any position of authority. You’d look old too if you had to put up with this guff; in the words of Sen. Hruska when the Senate turned down Harold Carswell for the Supreme Court: “mediocre people deserve some representation on the court, too”. If we elect Hillary, not only mediocre but extremely old people will be represented as president and the horrible effects of the War on Women in this wretched country (as opposed to real progressive societies such as Saudi Arabia or Pakistan) will come to an end.
They did it with Reagan, too.
IF McCain HAD been elected, and DID die in office, we WOULD HAVE HAD A CONSERVATIVE PITBULL, FOR ONCE IN A FEW YEARS!!!
And, McCain, would have the same notoriety as James Polk.
(who d’at?)
Brain damage isn’t always the cause most of the time it’s stupidity caused by failure to learn.
Here's hoping the assh*les the the New York Times and Washington Post enjoy their little prizes because they damn sure have lost the respect of most Americans.
Should she run, it would be great to take all those anti-McCain “too old” articles and simply replace them with “Hillary”.
Alas, perchance to dream.
What’s that bromide from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? Don’t sugar coat it. Tell it straight.
