This was a good piece but it doesn’t explain why some liberal American Jews equate conservatism with Nazism. I have first-hand experience with this. My theory is that they place both Nazis and conservatives on the right because, although the Nazis were socialists, both were/are implacable foes of the Communists. And as the article pointed out, the leaders of the Communist revolution were Jewish.
In the late 1920s, German Jews voted for Hitler’s National Socialist Party, only to become victims of the Holocaust a decade later. They chose to ignore Hitler’s anti-Semitic rhetoric, believing that it was merely for domestic consumption. They doubted that Hitler could be bad, much less evil. After all, he was a socialist!
German Jews did not vote for Hitler. Antisemitism was his principle platform, and Jews knew it. They did vote for the Socialist Party (not the Nazi "National Socialist" Party), and the Socialists were, along with the Jews, the first to be sent to the concentration camps.
The author is also wrong to describe Karl Marx as a Jew (although Hitler did like to call him that). Marx's grandparents were Jews, but his parents converted to Lutheranism before Karl's birth. Marx never identified as a Jew, and his writings are full of anti-semitism.
One cousin is a political conservative but also a Jew for Jesus.
Yes, it bothers me that so many of my fellow Jews are so liberal-lefty, but there doesn't seem to be much I can do about it personally.

Anecdotally, a friend of mine married a Jewish girl and made the same observation to me (first time I ever encountered that particular concept)...this was years ago, pre-internets.
I'm wondering how much of it comes from a desire for a strong central government, as a protector of Jews. Somewhat how during the Middle Ages the safest position was to be a Court Jew to the King or a nobleman.

Based upon socialist theories developed by a Jewish philosopher and economist, Karl Marx, the principal inspiration, organization, and driving power of the revolution came from Jewish leaders. Most of them changed their Jewish names to Russian ones to conceal their Jewishness, such as Trotsky (Bronstein), Zinoviev (Apelbaum), Kamenev (Rosenfeldt), Sverdlov (Rubenstine), Larine, Uritsky, Steclov (Nakhamkes), all of whom later assumed major positions in Lenin’s government. In effect, Jews founded and shaped the Soviet state. Yet these same Jewish Bolsheviks quickly became the first victims of the Soviet state. Over the next twenty years, by 1937, practically all of them had become targets of Stalin’s repressions and were executed or murdered abroad, like Leon Trotsky. Still, they would not abandon their devotion to socialism.
Calling the Russian Revolution a "Jewish revolution" is a gross exaggeration (and one that Hitler liked to claim). Many of the Russian Bolsheviks were either Jewish or of Jewish ancestry, but the majority were not. Aside from Trotsky, the others named in this paragraph were minor players. And it is not hard to imagine why many Jews supported the Russian Revolution, because the Tsarist governments of Russia were virulently (and very often violently) antisemitic.
Jews passionately supported and continue to admire FDR, who denied entry for Jews seeking asylum from Nazi extermination just before World War II. The most telling is the tragedy of the German ocean liner MS St. Louis, whose captain, Gustav Schroder, tried to save 937 German Jewish refugees after they were denied entry to Cuba, by bringing his ship to Miami only to learn that the U.S. refused his Jewish passengers a safe harbor.
True, but only because U.S. immigration laws did not permit any more refugees to enter.

You do point out that Orthodox Jews tend to vote Republican. My favorite talk show hosts are Jewish, Michael Medved and Mark Levine, who I find to have a better understanding of world history and the Constitution than Limbaugh and Hannity.
Today conservative Christians seem to support the security of Israel more than Reform Jews. Would it be fair to refer to Reform Jews as JINOs? Like liberal “Christians” (see Trinity United “Church of Christ” in Chicago) who use their churches and synagogues for social activist leftist political purposes instead of houses of worship.
It was ok but it didn’t bring any new revelations to the table. Just frustrations we already knew. Here is my opinion. Jewish people throughout history and across the globe have been singled out and persecuted more than any other people. Singled out being the operative word. There is a wish to be treated like everyone else. To be part of society without having to give up their Jewishness. They feel that they will be vulnerable to persecutions in a democracy that places freedom over conformity such as we cons struggle for. With a government that emphasizes conformity, everyone is treated exactly alike on all levels. If everyone is just a number, you dont care if they are jewish. Everyone jewish or not gets their daily allotted government handout. Nobody can turn to the jews and say “you rigged the system” because everyone is tied to the system getting the exact same things. In short, jews want to be treated like everyone else even if that means we get a government that forces us to all to be treated equal. IE universal healthcare, housing, education, everything.
