The US has a GLUT of STEM workers! Me and all my U.S. Citizen Electrical Engineers in the Silicon Valley are out of work! Article after article talks about how how the US produces 50% more STEM graduates than there are open positions.

I oppose more STEM visas.
It is misleading because foreign STEM workers are working across many industries. I agree with Ann Coulter on STEM visas.

I posed the question for your benefit as there was no comment along with Post #1. Some folks might have misconstrued your position.
My husband has a Ph. D. in engineering. He is working now but he had been laid off in 2009. We know many people with Master’s degrees and less looking, as well as other Ph. d’s looking for work in their field. IEEE, the engineering society has said there is no glut of engineering jobs, just a glut of companies wanting to pay engineers less money by getting cheap H1-b visa types and laying off higher paid US engineers.
Why is this church trying to put US engineers out of work and why are you here promoting turning the US into a third world country?

So why don’t advanced degree graduates have 100% employment?
Well, to be honest, just because it is advanced, or hard, doesn't mean that even in a fair economy that there is demand for that skill.
An advanced degree in electric propulsion technology may not be very appealing to employers if the electric car market continues its current stinkfest.
BUT those skills and that worker could be reapplied to something else. That's one of the things that makes a labor glut so depressing: employers can be hyper-picky on both wages AND experience - too little or too much, and you're out!
So what do I do now with the carrot nose and the duck?
My husband and other white males over 50 werelaid off 2 years ago. My husband has a job at a start up makng half what he did with no stock and only healthcare.
Forgot to mention they were all software and hardware engineers and managers.
I praise God that your husband was able to find work, but I’m sorry it was at a drastic pay cut. We’ve known engineers who have lost their houses or who have taken work in areas that have no need of their training.
The Lord has been very gracious to us. My husband was able to find work after he was laid off. First as an adjunct professor (at hardly any pay), then he got a job in another city doing work related to his engineering degree. My husband had just finished his Ph D before he was laid off. That led to his work at the university. The out of town job he took was with a smaller company with fewer benefits, but we were fortunate that he had no reduction in pay.
I honestly believe that if he, being over fifty, had not gotten his advanced degree, he would have ended up working outside his field, or not at all.
The best cure for high wages is high wages. That is just another way of saying that when a free market is allowed to operate, demand that exceeds supply will be find that additional supply develops from people who hope to take advantage of the high prices.
Too many people in this country, and too many politicians seem hell-bent on opening the flood gates of immigration without respect first to what the country owes to its own citizens and secondly to the contribution a prospective immigrant could make. If there are any American citizens who lack jobs, it should give us pause about filling any open jobs with H1B viaholders, especially workers who want to return to their home country and become competitors.
Sadly, too many politicians and their “running dog lackies” (a pejorative phrase used in communist cold-war era propaganda) see immigrants as a voter demographic that they can pander to.
