WASHINGTON Five U.S. Catholic bishops took to Capitol Hill on Thursday to press again for Congress to consider comprehensive immigration reform, targeting specifically Republican Speaker John Boehner, a Catholic who for a year has prevented the House of Representatives from voting on the issue. The message from the bishops, in public at least, is stark and direct.
During the homily at a morning Mass before the bishops were to meet with several members of Congress, including Boehner, Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski put it bluntly: Current law on the issue is "antiquated and inadequate."
"Our immigration system is a stain on the soul of our nation," continued Wenski, chair of the U.S. bishops' committee on domestic justice and human development. "As a moral matter, it must be changed."
The U.S. bishops organized the Mass and lobbying as a follow-up to a similar Mass held in April in the Arizona border town of Nogales, celebrated just a few feet away from a wall separating the U.S.-Mexico border. Several bishops there distributed Communion to those in Mexico by extending their hands through the gaps in the iron slats of the 30-foot-high fence. At a press conference following Thursday's Mass, held at the Capitol Hill parish of St. Peter's, Seattle auxiliary Bishop Eusebio Elizondo said the bishops were compelled to act on the immigration issue because "every single human being is a brother or sister."
"We are here not because we are politicians, but because we are human beings," said Elizondo, who serves as the chair of the U.S. bishops' migration committee. "It's because the love of Christ is inside each of us and [Christ] called us to be witnesses of that."

The Catholic Church tells the government what to do. They shouldn’t be surprised when the government tells the church what to do.
I wonder why five U.S. Catholic bishops didn’t take to Capitol Hill on Thursday to press again for Congress to consider outlawing the murder of unborn children, targeting specifically Democrat Nancy Pelosi, a Catholic who....
Because they already own that rathole.
They're still on the original mission...bring down the Protestant edifice known as the United States.
Then the overseer class they work for will have a new peasant class to plunder.
You first. Open the Vatican to immigration.
Holy ****!
The US is not a Protestant edifice. It never has been -- by merit of the first amendment and statements by the Founding Fathers, the US is Christian country, not just a Protestant one.
And Mexico is about 80% Catholic in name, with only about 45% of that 80% identifying as practicing in any way. The Church was outlawed in the 1920s in Mexico and the clergy expelled and killed. The last of the restrictions stemming from the communist revolution of the 20s was only lifted in the 1990's, and the government of Mexico remains hostile to Church teachings. The Church hardly "owns" Mexico. Maybe it did at some point in time, but not now.
When they decided to “chose their battle”, they chose illegal alien invaders over the unborn and the sanctity of marriage.
What is worse news for us is that many Mexicans are becoming Muslim.
Of course they do...they don’t like American freedom or capitalism. The pope preaches socialism and people swoon
“Of course they do...they dont like American freedom or capitalism.”
They have security and care for the rest of their lives.Working for a living might change their minds.

Exactly. I’m totally fed up with the liberal Cardinals, Bishops and Priests that provide sanctuary for illegal invaders and push, push, push to give them all amnesty.
Is it any wonder that the Catholic church has lost stature, respect and participation (beyond illegal invaders) in the US when they constantly support people to violate Federal laws?
The Catholic hierarchy will never get over all the power they lost centuries ago when they aligned themselves with royalty to control the peasants.
