Hillary Clinton is currently on what is being labeled a "book tour from hell." The last week has not gone well for her largely because of her own unforced errors.
While a serious debate on her foreign policy record surely is waiting down the road, Mrs. Clinton this week is dealing with a hail of mockery on Twitter for her claims of financial trouble.Americans everywhere understand how tough it is meet mortgages on two mansions while sending your kid to an elite university and having friends who can conjure up a highly questionable $1.3 million dollar loan guarantee out of nowhere. The #HillaryIsSoPoor hashtag has at times blended the dead broke comment with Mrs. Clintons time at the State Department. #HillaryIsSoPoor she couldnt afford proper security for Benghazi, reads one tweet.
The mockery was sufficiently strong that on Tuesday, Mrs. Clinton conceded that her dead broke comment needed some context.
In an interview with ABCs Good Morning America, she said she understands why some Americans may be confused or even angered by the statement. The couples net worth has been estimated to be between $100 million and $200 million.
However, some ethics experts said that other executive and legislative branch officials might be prohibited from accepting such help. Although federal employees are prohibited from taking most gifts, the rules make an exception for the president and vice president a difference originally intended to allow them to accept gifts from foreign dignitaries but that has since been invoked in permitting Clinton, for example, to accept contributions to his legal defense fund.Interestingly, Hillary claims to have been $12 million in debt but that's not what the NY Times was reporting 15 years ago:Even if a mortgage guarantee is not considered a gift for the purposes of the disclosure form, a government official said, it could be deemed a gift and prohibited to other government employees under the rules restricting acceptance of such benefits.
"It's hard to imagine how it isn't a gift," said one private lawyer who specializes in government ethics. "It's not that he wrote him a letter commending his character. He's put $1.3 million in cash out and doesn't have the use of that for the period of the balloon clause. . . . There's no way of seeing it as something not of value to the Clintons."
The Clintons, indebted by over $5 million in legal bills from the investigations that have marked the Clinton Presidency, were able to buy the white-shingled, five-bedroom home in Chappaqua after Mr. Clinton's chief fund-raiser, Terry McAuliffe, personally secured the loan.Hillary and Bill also had $350,000 in cash for a down payment.
During her book tour Hillary showed how old people can get cranky.

And now, the vast right wing conspiracy is back.
Clinton responded: They are trying constantly to, you know, raise false canards, you know, plant, you know, false information, and thats what they do.Hillary should explain if that also includes Monica.Yeah, Karl Rove tried that with my health and got totally, you know, shot down. I am so used to these people. Theyre like a bunch of, you know, gamers, said Clinton.
Clinton added that she believes Rove and Drudge pose such questions simply to avoid a real debate of important issues affecting the American people, saying its business-as-usual for conservatives to attack her on matters that are totally off subject.
And now a serving of whine:
