WOODBURY, Conn. A high school student claims that a firewall is blocking conservative websites at his school.
Andrew Lampart, a senior at Nonnewaug High School, discovered that he couldnt get on the National Rifle Associations website while on campus as he was doing research for a classroom debate on gun control in May.
So, I went over to the other side, Lampart told WTIC. And I went over on sites such as Moms Demand Action or Newtown Action Alliance and I could get on these websites but not the others.
The 18-year-old decided to investigate further by broadening his search terms to political parties in Connecticut.
I immediately found out that the State Democrat website was unblocked but the State GOP website was blocked, Lampart said.
The student took it a step further and looked at websits focusing on abortion issues and religion. He discovered that right-to-life groups were blocked by the firewall but that Planned Parenthood and Pro-Choice America werent.
Lampart even tried to explore websites like Christianity.com and the Vaticans site but they were both blocked. However, Islam-guide.com was not blocked.
Theyre trying to, in my opinion, shelter us from whats actually going on around the country and around the world by blocking these web sites, Lampart explained. It should be the other way around. The websites should be unblocked so that students can get different viewpoints from different sides of each argument.
The superintendent of Woodbury schools was notified by Lampart, but nothing was done to fix the problem after a week. He decided to take his concerns to the Board of Education on Monday.
Its not a joking matter in terms of having access to both sides of an issue, Board Chairman John Chapman told WTIC.
The Board appreciated hearing the comments from Andrew and agree that he has raised an important issue that warrants further investigation, Chapman explained.
Remember your in Connecticut ,it’s not a Democracy ,it’s Police State
We’re not biased.
If you racist, sexist, homophobic, teabaggers were smarter you’d know that.
” A high school student claims that a firewall is blocking conservative websites at his school.”
It’s the Communist way, don’tcha know?
So again, the biggest enemy to freedom is the public school system.
No wonder “Watter’s World” on Fox can always find stunningly ignorant
young people to interview, no matter how much money is spent on their
For what it’s worth ... Touche!
I know for a fact that the WPAFB Air Force Base blocks most responses to forums, but not the democraticunderground. I know because I lurk there. (at lunch)
That, to me, is an essential Conservative position. LESS GOVERNMENT. Better schools.
I kind of suspect that the Air Force is the “left wing” of the American military ...
Kids should not be surfing the internet at school. No wonder our education system is so bad. What do this do? Allow the teachers an hour off while the kids surf the net?
Fascist book burners of the left unite!
Someone should tell those students that todays rebellion is to go against
the leftist agenda and become Christians who own guns and marry the opposite sex.
Not just WPAFB - probably the whole AFNET.
“Andrew Lampart ... discovered that he couldnt get on the National Rifle Associations website while on campus as he was doing research for a classroom debate on gun control”
That sounds like a legitimate use of the internet at school.
Your right.....reading the article would have helped....Sorry.
...and yet FReepers STILL send their kids to public schools.
For CT people the debate is over, and the left wins it all!
