Obama’s Iraq War Crime: A Missed Opportunity to Transform the Muslim World
Political Kryptonite ^ | June 24, 2014 | Fred Dardick

George Bush had much bigger plans for Iraq than simply killing Saddam Hussein, securing his WMDs and handing over control of the oil rich nation to whatever remained of the Ba’ath Party once hostilities ended. Some might consider him naive, but Bush believed that a modern Iraq, one that respected minority and woman’s rights, one ruled by the rule of law rather than the rule of the mullahs, could act as a catalyst in the Muslim world bringing Judeo-Christian values and justice to hundreds of millions who lived their lives in Islamist chains.

It was an audacious goal, one that would be wrought with peril and sacrifice not only for American soldiers, but for the Iraqi people who would ultimately die in their tens of thousands, paying the price for freedom from radical Islam, so that their children might some day live in a world dominated not by Sunni vs. Shia or Christian vs. Muslim divides, but by economic and political opportunity for all.

Bush could’ve cut and run in 2007, but that would’ve meant handing over Iraq to the jihadists. Even though every voice on the left said Iraq was doomed, with Harry Reid saying the war was lost and Obama claiming more troops would accomplish nothing, Bush, not hindered by the defeatism and cowardice of Democrats, forged ahead and ultimately won the peace.

But it was a temporary peace, a battle won in a generational war still to be fought. Bush understood that in order to show the Middle East that lasting freedom could be theirs, America had to remain in Iraq, had to remain engaged in the political process, mediating disputes between Sunnis and Shia, standing up for Christians and ...

How many soldiers have the Germans, Japs and South Koreans blown up with a roadside IED? That is the difference.

I believe he was motivated in getting even for the attempted assignation plot on his daddy.

An assignation plot? What sort of assignment were the plotters going to give his daddy?

not many since 1945, that’s for sure

how “civilized” would the Japanese and Germans have been by 1950 if there was no Marshall Plan, we gave up Berlin to the Russians, and we pulled out all our occupying troops?

“It has everything to do with our messing in the affairs of sovereign nations in the region for decades.”

LOL! “Sovereign nations”? Like “Iraq”, “Saudi Arabia”, and “Jordan”?

“Sovereign nations” created by European diplomats and the British army?

Tribes with flags is more like it.

Time to admit Americans, with good intentions, screwed up, overestimated the stage of enlightenment of arab societies, and are no longer willing to send our children die to defend invisible lines the British drew through the deserts to partition the oilfields and water sources.

However we should be prepared and willing to preemptively destroy the armies who are massing against Western civilization.

Comparing the rebuilding of Europe and Japan to the nation building in the Iraq and Afghanistan makes my point. Europeans wanted to return to normal. The Japanese wanted to return to normal.

Islamic countries want to burn the world to bring the 12th Imam. They used democracy to vote in sharia rule.

remember that after Versailles Hitler promised the Germans not just a return to prosperity, but a chance to achieve destiny. They bought it. One of the lessons learned and reason the occupation of Germany was expected to last at least for a generation if not longer.

After Bush gave Iraq a political fresh start, a power sharing western-style constitution, elections, a functioning economic infrastructure, a $19 billion purged and rebuilt military and police force, and gave Petraeus the troops and mission to gain the cooperation of the provincial and traditional authorities in driving out the foreigners and neutralizing radicals..

obama gave the country 3 years.

the Germans were willing to vote in the Nazis to restore social order, many Russians still prefer the rule of an iron fist, and the muslims are willing to vote in sharia for many of the same compulsions for social order

No saying I have a solution but sharia is just a horse of a different color when it comes to people freely choosing totalitarianism. We are sliding into soft totalitarianism in our own country

“like it or not,”

Yes, very odd. Everything. Every single thing about him is suspect.

I think O’Reilly realizes that he’s carrying the mantle. There are no Dan Rather’s out there, no Sam Donaldson’s, no anybody covering the WH with any energy.

O’REilly too, smell blodd in the water. He knows that this administration is:

1. Inept
2. Corrupt
3. Partisan to the detriment of our country
4. Not capable of protecting us in war
5. On and on and on

I think he realizes that it’s going to get worse, and there is nothing anyone can do about it, therefore he is the guy crying in the wilderness, along with the other FOX journalists.

This IRS thing is the worst. I mean I grew up respecting my govt and the people who ran it. Now I don’t trust any of them.

Obama claiming more troops would accomplish nothing

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

No number of American troops, no matter how long they stay, can change their country. Only they can do that, and few if any of them want it badly enough to stand up and do it.

Assignation plot? Were they going to give him 72 virgins without waiting for the afterlife?

I think you mean "assassination plot". ;-)
