I guess, with this economy it would be too much to expect the job to go on remaining unfilled. But it would be nice.

My first job when I was 16 was working at McDonald's and one of my "friends" came to my counter and begged me to give him a couple of hamburgers and not ring it up. I took some money out of my own pocket and paid for it for him. I was only 16 and I knew that was the proper way to do it.
All these generous people saying "But it was only a biscuit" have obviously never been in a retail business dealing with shrinkage. The biggest danger to your bottom line is product that disappears. Somebody who is dishonest in small things can be dishonest a LOT in small things.

What does being a vet have to do with anything? The guy was stealing, and he attracting homeless, non-paying riffraff that would displace and repel paying customers.
The manager was wise, and withing his rights.
To: lbryce
The guy was warned about giving away food 5 times before he was fired. In my book that’s about 3 warnings more than he should have gotten. If he was so concerned about feeding other people with food that didn’t belong to him he should have bought the food first.
And by the way, what does the fact that he’s a veteran have to do with anything?

Theft by any means is still theft ... should have paid for it then given it to him ... but yes, it was a bit extreme of his boss.

BTW - in 0bozo’s only paid job he gave away ice cream to some street kids - he stole just as he’s stealing in the presidency - never learned that theft is against the law.

If he wanted to give away muffins then maybe he should have saved up his money and bought his own muffin shop. Cracker barrel doesn’t owe anyone ANY free muffins.
Why is this even questioned?

The guy he helped was an American citizen...a felonious thing to do...

This thread is a good example of moral relativism. A couple people here insist it was okay to repeatedly take the company's product and give it away because it was "just a fraction of what they make" or "everybody does it". The majority here say it doesn't matter how little he took, it was the principle that matters and he had been warned several times before.
I definitely think he should have been fired. It wasn't his property to give away. If he wanted to reach into his own damned pocket and buy a muffin for the guy, he should have. But he didn't.
And this issue with extra packets of sugar? If I buy a cup of coffee and want to sweeten it with an extra pack of sugar, I believe that is why establishments provide them. They do not provide them so I can grab a handful and go home and make lemonade. What is so hard to understand about this? I think people are being deliberately obtuse.

What he did was wrong. If he had paid for it, and then given it in charity, that would have been the right thing to do.
