This Is What Is Going To Happen If Ebola Comes To America
TEC ^ | 08/01/2014 | Michael Snyder

If the worst Ebola outbreak in recorded history reaches the United States, federal law permits "the apprehension and examination of any individual reasonably believed to be infected with a communicable disease". These individuals can be "detained for such time and in such manner as may be reasonably necessary". In other words, the federal government already has the authority to round people up against their will, take them to detention facilities and hold them there for as long as they feel it is "reasonably necessary". In addition, as you will read about below, the federal government has the authority "to separate and restrict the movement of well persons who may have been exposed to a communicable disease to see if they become ill". If you want to look at these laws in the broadest sense, they pretty much give the federal government the power to do almost anything that they want with us in the event of a major pandemic. Of course such a scenario probably would not be called "martial law", but it would probably feel a lot like it.

If Ebola comes to America and starts spreading, one of the first things that would happen would be for the CDC to issue "a federal isolation or quarantine order". The following is what the CDC website says about what could happen under such an order...

Isolation and quarantine are public health practices used to stop or limit the spread of disease.

Isolation is used to separate ill persons who have a communicable disease from those who are healthy. Isolation restricts the movement of ill persons to help stop the spread of certain diseases. For example, hospitals use isolation for patients with infectious tuberculosis.

Quarantine is used to separate and restrict the movement of well persons

The military ones were federal, to quibble, but yes, case law is, as I understand it, essentially local. Saw a great pic of one at what is now Fort Riley, KS, at a WWI lecture last month. This one:

The thing really should have been called the Kansas Flu but they didn't know that at the time and the Spanish Flu sounds more sinister. Swine flu sounds cool too, bird flu, not so much.

They should quarantine and isolate the 3 or 4 countries where the disease normally exists. They should have isolated those who break into the USA. It doesn’t mean we should not help those countries, but there are 330,000,0000 people here to protect and that means prevention.

I wonder if this is the 3 million caskets of homeland security. I wonder if this is the 2.5 billion hollow point rounds of Homeland Security. I wonder if this is the 72 law enforcement agencies of the US. I wonder if the plan to diminish the national security of the US is part of the plan.

Not a quibble. The feds are authorized on military reservations.. Even us rubes out here in fly over country know that.

And we aren't Constitutional lawyers. We can just read. ;)

Central government can only make this worse. Locals will have to deal with the reality.

Under the authority of the laws of the US--not to allow people to enter the US from those affected countries.

What is your point John?

It's easy to say "THEY SHOULD", but there needs to be lawful authority under the Constitution.

The feds can keep people out of the country, but the US doesn't have the authority to isolate or quarantine other countries, as you suggested.

My point is that even when stuff turns into a crap sammich, the rule of law still needs to apply.

Of course if things get really, really bad, history tells us the government can and will suspend the law. I afraid you and I both could be disappointed all too soon. There is an unease in this country. It is an uneasiness about the federal government and I believe well deserved. In the end all government is, is raw force.

history tells us the government can and will suspend the law.

So will I.

History tells me that unpopular governments don't last long.

Raw force belongs to fly-over country, where the guns are built and the food grown.

Government really doesn't want to go down that road.

Ebola might be a serious threat - or not... It’s worth the time to discuss the range of possibilities - - a normal part of the process. If that’s uncomfortable you might choose different threads to read...

The problem is that such diseases tend to overwhelm the machinery intended to contain them. Who guards the guardians? When the keepers are sick themselves, who mans the guard posts and the barricades?

You're right - medical personal would be at high risk in the early stages of a breakout.

There’s some interesting info on this Dr. Freiden, head of the CDC, on Hot Air in the “Sunday Talking Heads” thread. Look at postings by Jaibird...
He/she has a link to a site that shows this guy bitching about sequestration “cuts” to the vaccine program and blames it all on The Pubs in Congress....
Sounds like an O’bozo shill to me....
