Speaking with Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive recently, for the magazine's September issue, Hillary Clinton shared her views on combating sexism, and encouraged women to let go of perfection in their quest for success.
Its a sad reality that Clinton, despite her great success, must address the issues of sexism and physical appearance in every interview imagine if a male politician was quoted encouraging men to throw down their grooming kits and just go for it, its laughable, right? But until women are judge only on their achievements and conduct, until the medias obsession with women's physical appearance wanes, its a conversation we still need to have. And it is the Hillarys, the Sheryls, Malalas and Julias who keep this conversation alive publicly, on our behalf.
Having read the former US Secretary of States advice, we thought we would compile a simple list of guidelines for women to live and work by. So, print it out and pin it above your desk, ladies, because Hillary has spoken.
1. Stand up for your fellow woman
"I have generally not responded [to sexism] if it's about me. And I have responded if it's about somebody else, because if women in general are being degraded, are being dismissed, then I can respond in a way that demonstrates I'm not taking it personally but I'm really serious about rejecting that kind of behaviour."
2. Its OK to ask for help
"Too many people ... have this deep-seated fear that if they ask for help, they will be thought less of. In my [view], they'll be thought more of."
3. Let go of perfect
"You dont have to be perfect. Most men never think like that, theyre just trying to figure out whats the opening and how they can seize it. Theyre not thinking about, Oh my gosh, Im not perfect, my hairs not perfect today, I wore the wrong shoes. No."
4. Dont play into the hand of sexists
" ... You just have to decide you're going to follow Eleanor Roosevelt's maxim about growing skin as thick as the hide of a rhinoceros, and you have to be incredibly well preparedbetter prepared [than a man], actually ... and you have to have a support group around you, because it can be really a brutal experience [dont go] to the place of anger and feeling sorry for yourself, because that kind of behaviour plays into the hands of the sexists.
5. Be patient, but be determined
"It doesn't have to all happen when you're youngI mean, one of the most powerful women in American politics is Nancy Pelosi. She had five children. She didn't go into politics until her youngest child was in high school.... That's one of the great things about being a woman in today's world: You have a much longer potential work life than our mothers or our grandmothers did."
Like Paula Jones and Gennifer Flowers?
2. Its OK to ask for help
What difference does it make?
3. Let go of perfect
She let go of perfect when she married Bill, and she has definitely let go lately.
4. Dont play into the hand of sexists
That's why Webb is the real father
5. Be patient, but be determined
Long march through the institutions....
Delay, redirect, obfuscate, lie, hurl accusations at opponents
6. Enable your serial rapist “husband,” destroy his victims, lie about everything large and small, and ride coattails to wealth & celebutard status.
Bonus: “bump your head” to dodge Congress
6. If you happen to be the first woman captain of a British warship,
don’t knock boots with the first ‘Barnacle Bill’ who comes a-knocking on your cabin door.
The dirty little nipper.
1. latch onto a man that’s going places. even if he’s a man-whore.
2. do damage control for your meal-ticket, and that means bribing, threatening and damaging your “fellow womens’” reputations.
3. have sex with your law partners, and let one impregnate you.
4. don’t be afraid to go lesbian when you want.
5. don’t worry about anything you do, what difference does it make?
#3.
Women think about their hair and shows and being perfect but men never do..
A little sexist there Hillary?
#4, when will we find out that Hill was the first cheater in the family, and BJ was just getting even by the hundreds?
I’m so happy to have Hillary Clinton give me advice on being a successful woman. I will be able to sleep well tonight.
Women and success ping.
I can’t determine if it’s satire or meant to be taken seriously.
Following Hillary’s advice on how to be successful makes about as much sense as brushing your teeth with a used toothbrush picked from the floor in a public restroom.
Where and how was she succeesful?
Hillary, besides being the 5 star general in the 'War on Women'; showed how independent she is when she refused to hop off of Bill's cheating coattails.
1. Lie 2. Cheat 3. Steal 4. Murder 5. Ride on the coat tails of a successful man
1. Stand up for your fellow woman
BS!
I have been working all my life and no where, at no time, in no way have I ever been treated worse than by other women.
Not once in a while, not on occasion but INVARIABLY! PERIOD
Give a woman a title and responsibility and she walks around swinging a bigger one than the worst man you EVER worked for!
6. Stand by your man
6. Marry well. You’ll never make it on your own merits so form some kind of useful political alliance. It doesn’t matter if the co-conspirator is a two-bit philandering liar or an amoral satyr; you’re not marrying for love, for pete’s sake. It might help your career to eventually have a child or two. They can be useful tools in marketing yourself to common people who have families and pets and such.
Preach it, sister!
I ran into a psycho fem wacko manager and she made my life a living hell.
