Ferguson is now a free speech zone

The people of Ferguson, Missouri are still out on the streets. They're loud, and they're upset, but tonight they're not being intimidated by warrior cops. They're not being tear gassed. They're not being shot at with rubber bullets. They're simply doing what Americans do in hard times.

The decision today by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon to yank St. Louis County Police from security detail appears to be paying off. Since police shot and killed Michael Brown on Saturday, heavily armed officers locked down the neighborhood, intimidating peaceful protestors. Police aggression peaked on Wednesday night as the nation watched, as officers advanced on crowds of residents, asking them to turn off their cameras. Police even tear gassed an Al Jazeera news crew, and arrested two journalists for no reason.

The tone has shifted. Residents we spoke with on the ground today said they're finally able to do what they wanted to do in the first place: mourn the death of Michael Brown and let the country know that his death was senseless and unnecessary. The afternoon, marked by calm solidarity, has transformed into a boisterous parade. People from all over St. Louis — and elsewhere — are driving through this small strip of Ferguson, honking horns liberally, packed so full that passengers are hanging out of the windows.

Whenever hands are raised, just as Brown's were before he was fatally shot, the chant echoes through the street: "Hands up! / Don't shoot!"

We asked several people who've been present for the protests how the tone has changed since St. Louis County Police left Ferguson. In a word, it's peaceful. "They told us to go back to the house," a young man named Sosa told us. "We don't want to be in the house. We want to be on the streets."

But, Katz says, "one can't just say, 'Because I could use deadly force ten seconds ago, that means I can use deadly force again now.'"

Well, I don't know, but I believe that the deadly force doctrine is a switch. The officer crosses a line, and there's no going back. The determination is to kill, at that point. It does make sense. It's not like he's a kindegarten teacher.

Ballistics and Coroners reports will come out eventually. Way to much heat on them to not make it sooner than later.

So far the eyewitness accounts are pretty damning. And if they are half right, this cop is headed for a lifetime of lawsuits. Even if there’s little truth, the DOJ will make this guy want to gargle Draino.

You mean the narrative that he was a gentle giant on his way to grandma’s house to keep her company and that he was shot by some racist police pig simply because he be black may not be true?

I am more interested in the actual crime scene and what occurred at the time of the shooting.

Here is what I've pieced together, taking into account both the officer's and the witness's statement/interview.

Mike and friends were walking back down the street in the middle of the road. The cop was on his way to a shots fired call. Probably not the first time, either. The boys moved only enough to let the cop go by. He yelled at them to "get the f on the sidewalk. They responded with a poetic and flowery "NO". He hit the brakes and backed up. They stood firm in the street, refusing to budge. The cop tried to open the door, but Big Mike intentionally or unintentionally slammed the door shut. The officer yells "I'm gonna kill you". Big Mike reaches in the window and punches the cop in the face. Big Mike tries to take the gun, or thinks he can keep the cop from pulling the gun. He knows he's in a mess now. In the struggle, the gun fires. Mike backs away from the window. The cop pulls his gun up and fires at Big Mike. Hits him. Mike takes off. The officer jumps out and fires again. Mike is still up. The officer continues to fire as Mike comes to a stop and is sinking to the ground.

All of this happened in about 60 seconds.

Thanks for the link. Nice to have some source to backup what I heard that night.

BTW, the ATM was out in the street. Later they came back and loaded it onto a truck.

Excuse me, don’t excuse me, it’s a lot different with a cop. A cop is the law. “I fought the law, and the law won.” Didn’t you ever learn that lesson? Didn’t you ever get pulled over? Did you ever decide to knock the cop down by blasting the door open, then kick him in the head?

If you did, were you surprised when he pulled out his gun and shot you dead?

Man, this Stuff is makin’ me mad, I gotta say.

OK, now what if you tried to grab the cop’s gun, and in the struggle a shot was fired ?

My hunch, it’s going to boil down to one cops word against a cabal of witnesses...Some of which will be questionable witnesses.

Looking at the shooting scene, the fatal shot appears to have happened away from the police vehicle where the struggle allegedly occurred. Looks to be a fatal shot to the head....close up...

This could mean a struggle for the gun between the two from the police vehicle to about 50 feet away from it.....OR like the witnesses said, the cop after the struggle inside the vehicle, walked over to the suspect and just shot him dead when he was about 40-50’ from the police vehicle..

Video to the shoot scene below...

Yeah, I fervently believe they wanted to protest peacefully in the first place. That’s why we had a couple of days of stories about people looting and burning. They really wanted to be cool and mourn, but St. Louis County Police said “No, you guys have to riot. We insist.”

Look. I’m open to the very real possibility that this cop needs to lose his job and go to prison. But don’t stand there, pee on my head and tell me it’s raining.

If that is what occurred, the officer involved in this shooting has a real big problem...

“What would happen to you if you punched a cop in the face, after slamming his door shut on him ?

Like I said, That would be murder... It’s no different with the cop.

“OK, now what if you tried to grab the cop’s gun, and in the struggle a shot was fired ?”

At that instant it would be justified, but upon retreat of the perp it would be murder...

Go up to a police dog and kick it in the stomach.

I bet you don’t get 10 feet before you are executed.

All of this mayhem because a gang wanted retribution on QT for calling the cops on Big Mike. The story the Media doesn’t want to talk about.

Don't know what a k9 has to do with this, but if your speculation above is correct, again that officer involved in this has a huge problem.

That only applies to civilians. Don't tell me you have never heard "stop or I'll shoot" ?

“So a skinny cop can shoot a bigger man because he’s afraid? Is that your position?”

My position is that the Perp was beating on the Cop in his squad car (which is how the Cop’s face ended up swollen and bruised) and was trying to get hold of the Cop’s gun. Why? To shoot the Cop with his own gun. However the Cop hung on to it, fired one shot, the Perp started running and the Cop ran after him and plugged him. I’m on the Cop’s side, you see, whereas I suspect you are one of the Cop haters that infect certain Cop hater threads that are appearing here all too often.
