Look, I oppose marijuana legalization because I don’t want to deal with a dumbed down work force in the US. Marijuana really does reduce cognitive abilities and I know because I have been watching it happen to a friend.

He always was one of those people who said that they would rather see their kids drive high on marijuana than drunk on beer, but one night she shared her legal medical marijuana with a young neighbor, a 21 year old senior in college. They smoked a joint together before he left. On his way home he hit and killed a bicyclist and spent 3.5 years in jail because of the marijuana.

But, my friend was in denial about her role in the death and continued to share her medical marijuana (she has a license to grow) . It has changed her and not in a good way. She has become extremely argumentative and dogmatic with everyone, about everything. Her marriage is falling apart and the once intelligent, generous and kind person has turned into someone that I just don’t want to be around.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. - C. S. Lewis

I think Buckley would agree.
