Ever see people shooting their AK's or AR's around the corner without looking? The folks from Tracking Point is making it a reality with their upcoming app that allows you to do this with a pair of Google Glass and Tracking Point Site System attach to your favorite AR, the app binds the two together.
I'm not going to go into the nuts and bolts of this, but just know that where you point your gun you would be able to see on the hud of your glasses. If you're technically savvy you can have this on your own smart phone. Here's a short video on this gadget.

Just a guess here, but I’ll bet “Tracking Point” gets cut off by Google from the App developers toolset.

This thread has just added to the FreeRepublic "bang list" (firearms interest list) by adding the keyword "banglist".

Any time a firearms-related thread is created on FreeRepublic, please be sure to add the "banglist" keyword to it so that interested FReepers don't miss it. Just a suggestion.

Sounds neat for hunting and target shooting maybe, but for self defense would you trust your life to Google?

I see this as a test of concept. If it is effective then a enterprising company will come out with a pair of shooting glasses that incorporates superior tech not dependent on google.

Maybe, if Google doesn’t have it cornered via patent.

Too much risk of it getting jammed. No thanks.

This tech was written about in the FASA Shadowrun books starting around 1989. There is some decent prior art out there on smartguns showing the targeting info on a pair of glasses or on your retina via a implant.

The Accutact Anglesight is a simpler and cheaper alternative, it uses mirrors.

Remote viewing and ultimately control of firearms will be common in a few years. No sense putting a soldier in the line of fire when you can send out a robot, particularly if the robot can fly, or move very quickly on land.

One more result of high performance computing, radio links, and low cost imaging systems.
