January 11, 2015 Je Suis Sick and Tired of Cant By Clarice Feldman Millions of pixels gave their lives this week in lame efforts to explain the horrid slaughter of innocents in France, most of it pure cant by cowardly journalists, uninformed politicians offering up theological views on Islam, and self-described experts on terrorism who blame it on everything from Israel to the Wests defense against such attacks.
Liberal Hypocrisy on Free Speech and Freedom of the Press
Count me in the camp with Matthew Continetti, who gives countless examples of liberal hypocrisy about free speech including the following examples:
Do liberals actually believe in the right to offend? Their attitude seems to me to be ambivalent at best. And this equivocation was apparent within hours of the attack, when news outlets censored or refused to publish the images for which the Charlie Hebdo editors were killed. Classifying satire or opinion as hate speech subject to regulation is not an aberration. It is commonplace.
Indeed, the outpouring of support for free speech in the aftermath of the Paris attack coincides with, and partially obscures, the degradation of speech rights in the West. Commencement last year was marked by universities revoking appearances by speakers Condoleezza Rice and Ayaan Hirsi Ali for no other reason than that mobs disagreed with the speakers points of view. I do not recall liberals rallying behind Condi and Hirsi Ali then.
He adds to the mix of examples, Brendan Eichs opposition to gay marriage costing him his job, the Chicago Sun Times' removal of a Kevin D. Williamson article critical of transgender activism, Brandeis Universitys unremitting assaults on a student for publicizing another students cheering the assassination of police officers, blaming an obscure video for the violent attack in Benghazi. .....

We have to defeat ourselves before our enemy.
Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under the table
David Hume could out-consume
Schopenhauer and Hegel
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as shloshed as Schlegel
There's nothing Nietszche couldn't teach ya
'Bout the raising of the wrist
Socrates himself was permanently pissed
John Stuart Mill of his own free will
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill
Plato they say could stick it away
Half a crate of whiskey every day
Aristotle, Aristotle was a buggar for the bottle
Hobbes was fond of his Dram
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart
"I drink, therefore I am!"
Yes Socrates himself is particularly missed
A lovely little thinker
But a bugger when he's pissed.

That poem made me cry a little bit.
All that march is is a bunch of liberals getting in front of a parade and steering it in their direction. Same thing as Nov here. People spoke and Pols said “WE hear you! so we do it our way because thats what we heard.’
Reality is not a factor here. Power and agenda are.
Absolutely, this march is a joke. Has any newspaper in France republished the cartoons of Charlie Hebdo? None. Try having an any college newspaper publish an anti-Muslim article and it will be suppressed. Commencement speakers like Condoleezza Rice Hirsan Ali have all been hounded off college campuses. This march is more than a joke, its rank hypocrisy at its highest.
Yes we cant.
Where were the marches when hundreds of Christians were slaughtered? Where were the marches when Christians were executed under blasphemy laws?
This march is pure BS.
They're not ambivalent. They are reliably hypocritical.
The example that stands out in my mind is comparing their outrage over the Sony email leaks to their reaction when Donald Sterling's private conversation was taped and leaked.
I had to get up and leave during the homily by a visiting priest this morning. Fortunately he’s retired. Less opportunity to damage the Body of Christ. He started by apologizing to altar girls for what Cardinal Burke said about vocations. Then he started talking about an order of nuns which I personally know and which are the left leaning short haircut sensible shoe types. When he got to feminism I got up and left. I did come back for the Eucharist since that is why I go, to worship and receive.
Even better, the suggestion that you let him know by writing a letter, anonymously if necessary that the Mass is not a place for religious politics and perhaps he should switch to being an Episcopalian.
LOL, Love that tune!
I remember my friend and I trying to figure out all the words, and I said: get my brother in here, he’s got a degree in Philosophy, he’ll know what those names are!
And he did.
I just sent a SWE (strongly worded email) to our deacon not anonymous asking him to forward it to the priest.
Good for you. Actions speak louder than words.
