Ferguson eyes economic rebirth as corporations invest in troubled region, its residents
The Washington Times ^ | March 18, 2015 | Kelly Riddell

When the national news media descended on Ferguson, Missouri, in August, the city’s QuikTrip quickly became a symbol of civil unrest and racial tensions. The convenience store’s windows were smashed, the steel awnings were disfigured, and the building was looted and burned during street protests over the police shooting of unarmed black teen Michael Brown in a confrontation just a few blocks away.

Today, with the help of QuikTrip’s corporate parent, the first structural casualty of the protests will be reconstructed into a jobs training center and given to the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis to manage. QuikTrip will demolish the structure and donate the land and some funds to the league, company spokesman Mike Thornburgh said.

“The QuikTrip became such a focal point after Mike Brown died, so we wanted to turn that tragedy into a triumph — to let the community know we’re in the rebuilding process, that there are people investing time, money and energy to help provide you with the resources you need to take care of yourself,” Michael McMillan, president and CEO of the Urban League of St. Louis, said in an interview....

Jobs Training Center for the Urban League ... yeah, that’s gonna work. But remember, there will be no Quick Trip at which those trainees can work. This is “exit, stage right” for Quick Trip.

Replacing jobs with job training is a ‘good’ thing?
Only in America’s media.

This is par for the course. The "investments" are going to the local activists under the guise of job training, while the actual jobs will fail to materialize.

(1) National race-baiters exploit an incident and fan the flames of racism

(2) Local residents burn their community to the ground in anger

(3) National race-baiters call for "healing" and extort local governments and businesses

(4) Local residents stew in their own feces and wonder "whey them jobs be at."

Maybe the black business community can step up and move into this area.

Next time the rioting and looting starts they can experience gentle giants at play.

They’re crazy. The theft rate alone should be enough to keep them out of there.

I thought racist cops were supposedly the problem in Ferguson, not lack of job training. Now I’m really confused.

Loot the businesses and burn down the buildings. Raze the rubble and construct a “Jobs Training Center.” Where will these jobs they are to be training for actually be located?

nope-

Qick trip- lost their store- to a bunch of thugs—

Think they want to rebuild?

The plan:

A. collect insurance money
B. Donate the land (good tax rite off)
C. Announce they are “helping the community”
(but they are really just walking away”

They have to do it this way - to many other franchise
stores close by.

Guess what— ?— black thugs caused this in Ferguson-
Up here in minnesota it was WHITE thugs!
the demonrats (and Obama) went after medtronic with
a vengenace- taxes- laws- assesments- they Moved
to -IRELAND -(corporate did)- they talked GLOWINGLY
as to the -”NEW” jobs it would create here!-
big laughs all around— they just have some class
to NOT throw rocks at the Demonrats... might need
a favor or 2 in the future..

So Emerson Electric is going to locate their new engineering campus in Ferguson? Lucky engineers.

BTW, I didn’t know that Emerson owned Browning and Rigid Tools. I thought Home Depot had Rigid.

The elephant in the room that nobody in the media will mention: QT has decided not to rebuild a gas station there...for obvious reasons. QT’s donation buys themselves liberal absolution, and they won’t be called racist for packing up and leaving.

Yes, because they are not going to invest in this hell hole ever again.

Psst psst it’s not really gonna be for job training. Community organizing ACORN kind of operation is more like it.

Smart move by QuikTrip. Don’t rebuild in that neighborhood, keep the insurance money, get out of Dodge and get a fat tax write off.
