In my hikes througha nature preserve, I was told by a County Forrester that bears are most often more scared of humans than vice-versa, .... UNLESS it’s a Mama Bear with her cubs, then it’s time to get excited.

I asked what to do if a Mama Bear with cubs were to show up, and he said yell, scream, make noise.

FWIW.

They had to put down several bears where I live this year. A local wouldn’t quit feeding them despite multiple warnings and tickets. Locals were upset.

You obviously film your friend unsuspectingly encountering the bear. Don’t warm him, it would ruin your video. Videos being more important than friends.

Coming in contact with an adult bear is not nearly as scary as coming in contact with a baby bear and not knowing where Mom is.

I came across that alone on a hiking trail and couldn’t get away fast enough.

It was cut and paste from the source of original poster

I had similar thoughts. Then again, like the bear, the videographer may not have known the human was walking around the corner.

Idiot! I’d have gotten a selfie. With Boo-Boo’s paw around my shoulder like he was my buddy. That would’ve been sooooo cool! </low info post>

I had 942 picts on my trophy cam in 2 weeks at the one stand last June, we have more bear here along the Yukon than anywhere’s I lived in Pa, no joke. When bear put the stalk on ya, they hug the ground with front quarters, butt high and crawl in real slow with ears goin back and forth independently. I’ve had them at 5 feet and waved & hollered them off; shot another one. These were 150 lb blk bear which have no problem eating you. You have to watch the yearling boars, and the ones that come around houses (which we always shoot). The bear that get accustomed to people eventually wonder what humans taste like. Actually, I see most grizzly bears in aug & sept in blueberries; shoot everyone we see as they driving our moose to extinction; taking 85% of moose calf production every May & JUne.Bear also seem to sense when people are not at home; break in. I’ve had to help drag a bloody bear out of a cabin a few times over the years. All bear around houses & people are supposed to be shot on sight before they kill a local child.

The guy was clearly visible from the vantage point of the videographer.

A large adult strolled up to within 50 feet of me while blowing a deer call

Must have been smarter than the average bear if it learned how to blow a deer call.

A friend of mine was hunting in the Tonto Forest when he stepped over a fallen tree trunk right onto a cub. The cub screamed and my friend exited, stage left.

For maybe two steps before they saw each other.

I’m guessing the guy shooting the video was focused on the bear.

He was a one note bear, needed some practice. A bit like my sentence structure on occasion.

While blueberry picking this last summer a youngish (maybe 2 yr old) brown bear came within 15 feet of my mother. He somehow sneaked past my dog and myself to get that close (we were picking 50 feet apart).

This was midday, near a major highway construction site. Surprized the bejeebers out of us.

Mom just stood up and the bear booked into the woods. We continued picking, but stayed considerably closer together after that < BG >.

When my little boy was really little, we had gone to the
Smoky Mts. with my in-laws. We were parked at a scenic
overlook. There was a double rainbow; with bows being
vivid. - It was crowded. A mama bear and her cubs came up
to the area. My MIL plowed out of the car, bopped down to
within just a few feet of the bears. FIL left the back door
open for her to run and jump back in; which she didn’t.
My husband and FIL both were put in a very bad position.
That was my MIL. She did as she pleased, even if it
hare-lipped Aunt Hannie. She liked to show her butt on a
regular basis.

I’m guessing was that the whole purpose of the video was to record the surprise encounter.

I’m guessing they videographer didn’t know the other person was approaching.

My post was not directed to you personally, but as an answer to the question posed: “What do you do...?”
