So how many of you have come across a bear unexpectedly? Not wishing for anyone to come into harm's way, but s$%t can happen. Or, what would you do if you came across a bear in similar situation?

See what this person's reaction is.

Say “I love you bear” while holding your arms out wide inviting an embrace.

We do so every year. No big deal. No need to be a drama queen about it. Bears exist. They go through all kind of areas every day.

Much to his credit, it appears the guy didn’t s*** himself.

...it was a frightening experience or maybe it was just nerves.

I remember reading William James thoughts on this issue. He contended that you are frightened because you are running away from the bear. Not running away because you are frightened. An interesting topic.

As for the video, the man was lucky that the bear frightened either way.

I had kind of a standoff with a brown bear on Admiralty Island in Southeast Alaska back in the 90’s. A large adult strolled up to within 50 feet of me while blowing a deer call - I hollered and he stood up, looked in my direction and sniffed the air. He then popped his jaw twice, got down on all fours and wandered off. I had a bead on him the whole time with my .338 - after a bit I went back to my boat and changed my underwear.

The government should declare Bear free zones to protect the public.

The bear looked more startled and scared than the person!

Yep. Happens regularly here. This past October we had one making the rounds to clean up the fruit tree drops. Young male, tagged, about 140lbs and appeared to be about three years old.

It wasn't aggressive and was fattening up for winter (25,000 calories a day). Just pay attention and back off slowly. Affordable motion sensors are very helpful to avoid confrontations.

I wish the local game commission would do an educational add blitz about feeding bears. "If you feed the bear, you will kill the bear" or something like that. We had problems a couple years ago with people feeding them and making them aggressive.

I am still amazed how big the black bear nose is. The change from a black coat to a very large brown nose is something to marvel over.

supposedly a black bear will test a person- IF it decides not to run OR attack, that is- it will slowly walk towards the person, testing to see what kind of reaction it will get- Slowly backing away and picking up things to throw usually is enough to make the bear back down- but don’t bend down to get rock if bear is too close- Can’t find the video I wanted on this- but here’s a similar one- only the fella didn’t htrow a rock and scare the bear off like the other video I saw at one time

Stumpcat made the cut, maybe a bear could too.
If he was respectful and had good manners.

Call Leo DiCrapio. He says getting it on with a bear on film is normal.
