The media typically begins any Presidential campaign with comparisons to Harry Truman. The Reagan re-election in 1984 had the comparison. The Bush re-election in 1992 had the comparison. The Clinton re-election in 1996 had the comparison. Humorously, the off year election of 2002 used the Truman comparison too, as did 2004.
The media does this not only because a lot of them are lazy and not only because a lot of them talk with each other at beltway soirees where they infect each other with their various often contrived narratives and talking points, but also because they really do want to help put the election in some historic context.

Mccain and Romney were the ultimates rinos and they lost fair and square to Obama
Cruz Conservatism is the only antidote for the liberal poison that has been poured across this country for the last eight years.
There is just no way Cruz gets 40% of the black vote though
“And these talking points are now also being pushed by supporters of the NY Pseudo-Conservative.”
Just because you make an assertion does not make it reality.
I will definitely not be listening to the Rush Limbaugh program today. You can listen for a whole bunch of us.
Liberal mercantilist in conservative drag.
The left always seeks to “help” the GOP pick their candidates and many Republicans are happy to have that help. It’s become a litmus test.
Cruz now fighting Huckster and Santorum in Iowa who are making asses of themselves motivated by jealousy.
Cruz has to fight but he’s used to that.
I’m keeping the promise I emailed Rush awhile back that I would never be listening to his show if that POS loser Erickson was ever hosting it again. I can’t believe Rush has let him back on.
Perfect description. A conservative cartoonist could have a field day with it.
We would need 8 years of Trump deporting illegals and sealing the borders before Cruz would have a chance.
Reagan was too conservative to win. How did that work
And these talking points are now also being pushed by supporters of the NY Pseudo-Conservative.Not only NY Times supporters. Many (most?) of the Trump supporters here are just as guilty.
McCain and Romney were Designated Losers and never had any intention of winning. So I guess you could say they lost fair and square.
I won’t listen, but I’m sure if he hits Trump I will hear about it. If he does, I will join you. It won’t be the first time I have stopped listening to Limbaugh.
I have heard Erickson host several times; I never caught on that he is a GOP liberal. I must have missed something or may not have been that alert while listening: doing other things at the same time.
I support Ted Cruz, but I don’t hate Trump or feel any anger towards him, I just happen not to support him, but I could support Trump if he wins the nomination with a true conservative VP candidate.
Cruz will look good against Clinton or Sanders, more youthful like JFK versus Nixon in 1960.
Rafael Edward Cruz will surprise people with his Hispanic-Latino support in the end.
He is not a GOP liberal, but he questioned Trump the wrong way so he has to die (metaphorically speaking).
And just because you reject an assertion does not make it false.
