Trump's cash crunch
The American Thinker ^ | February 4, 2016 | Frank Friday

Count me in with those who suspect that Donald Trump is no billionaire, but merely a poseur who may never have recovered from his many big-deal failures, as AT and others have already noted. Ted Cruz is finally bringing this idea up, but it's a testimony to just how opaque Trump has made his finances that only recently has anyone outside the financial press even discussed the matter.

Trump just released his fourth-quarter FEC report, and again, the political press doesn't know what to make of it - beyond the fact that he lent his campaign $12.8 million, which in part went to pay back Trump entities for travel and event services. Real billionaires don't campaign like that; your Linda McMahon and Ross Perot and Meg Whitman just write checks for tens of millions without batting an eye. Trump, however, seems to be hoping (or needing) to get that money back in the future.

Trump has relied on the roughly $6.5 million in unsolicited small donations he received the last 3 months to pay for his late-starting television buys. This means he was badly outspent in Iowa, tying with Bobbie Jindal for money spent on Iowa TV. Then Trump's lack of organization in Iowa proved fatal, running against the competent Rubio campaign and the tech-savvy Cruz operation. And Trump made a laughingstock of his campaign with Tea Party reject Katrina Pierson. In fact, there hardly is an actual campaign - just his children, domestic staff, and Twitter followers.

LOL!

Any one that bothers to think would know that calling a wish a "grounded opinion/suspicion" ain't too bright - plus the fact that if Trump way "over-guestimated" his worth, it would have been all over headlines long ago.

Actual concerns are fine against, Trump, Cruz, or anyone else. Make believe crap demeans all of us.

Actually, it speaks exceedingly well of Trump that he came in a reasonably-close second on so little money.

And I support Cruz.

Oh yeh now we are in fantasy world. Trump’s accounting firm submitted a 100 page lie about his finanances? Yeh that’s the ticket. His plane cost at least $150 million.

The reason he only loaned himself $12 million is because that’s probably all he needs. He gets all the free airtime he can stand. That and travel are the biggest expenses. He’s a smart guy he’s not going to spend one more dime than he has to in the GOP race. He needs it for the general election.

I agree.

But, if I decide I’ll only vote for the honest person running for president, I’ll end up sitting it out. :>)

No thanks. I sat back and watched the asymmetric warfare that the Trump people were waging for a while without saying a word. Remember: when Cruz started his campaign, his general philosophy was that he wasn’t going to attack. Like Cruz, I sat back and took it on the chin for about as long as I could take it.

So, I’m not throwing fuel on the fire. I’m stopping the asymmetric warfare by fighting fire with fire.

But don’t worry - if Trump wins the nomination, I’ll post my opus (who cares, right?), and - like so many friends - go politically Galt. I’ll be happy to watch this country elect Trump OR Hillary and burn to the ground. We’ve entered a hopeless state.

Oh, that’s just brilliant. Take your ball and go home if you don’t get your way. This is exactly what Rubio wants. And you’re playing right into his hands.

Impossible. Every Trump lackey tells us he's "self-financed."

I didn’t take my ball and go home with McCain (thank Palin, it was a close call prior to her joining the ticket). I didn’t take my ball and go home with Romney (although I thought he was genuinely a nice guy, despite policies). During this time, we’ve been betrayed by Roberts, McConnell, Boehner, and Ryan.

To tell you the truth, if Rubio gets the nomination, I *will* vote for him. He’s bought and sold by the GOPe, but at least I think he will *try* to appoint better people to SCOTUS than Hillary.

Trump - no. I will not vote for him. I’ll write in Cruz with good conscience. I will have the full knowledge that either Trump or Hillary will win, and the country will burn either way. I will never be able to be asked on Freerepublic, “Well... did YOU vote for MITT???” (replace Mitt with Trump - the answer will be “no.”)

So you’d vote for the amnesty pimp Rubio over Trump. Telling.

Trump = touchback amnesty anyway with his big arse door. Sorry you don’t see that. Trump will betray EVERYTHING you think he stands for now, trust me.

As opposed to Rubio and his full-tilt amnesty? You make no sense.

Yep. Don’t care about amnesty as much as the next four SCOTUS vacancies. Trump will betray on 80%+ of the things convseratives hold dear. I don’t even trust him not to nominate Oprah, or some equally ridiculous person, to the Supreme Court.

If we get amnesty we get a permanent Dem stranglehold on the White House and eventually an all-lib SCOTUS. Rubio is a major-league weasel.

Whatever. At that point, just let the country burn. If Trump is the cure, I’ll stick with the disease until the patient is dead.
