Here’s a quick and effective way to shut the Enquirer up: Sue them and kill them in discovery

The story that has been posted by the National Enquirer about Ted Cruz and his ladies is false – complete garbage and a dastardly smear by Donald Trump. This has been the reaction from Ted Cruz and his supporters. Now the question becomes what Cruz should do about this terrible story describing his sexual dalliances with as many as five different women while he is married.

It would seem that Ted Cruz should take immediate action to stop any further publication of or emphasis place on this awful story.

Cruz should immediately strike back and sue the Enquirer then peel them like a grape in discovery. Cruz’s grounds are very solid so the Enquirer’s lawyers will certainly see this and immediately negotiate a quick settlement.

Yes of course Cruz is a public figure and as such is not subject to being libeled or slandered as the rest of us are. But there exceptions to this rule. The laws say that since he is a public figure, Cruz can only fight back and bring a lawsuit if he believes he can prove he is an innocent victim of malicious intent on the part of the Enquirer.

Given Senator Cruz’s initial reaction, the elements of a case for...

1. Why was $500k given by a Cruz Pac to his rival, Fiorina, in June of 2015?

2. Why was Heidi Cruz sitting on the side of a highway, when a cop found her to be a danger to herself?

3. Where are the defamation lawsuits?

usually, where there's smoke, there's fire, and there is quite a bit of smoke here.

If they don’t sue
it must be true

If that is such an easy solution, why haven’t the hundreds of people who have been libeled by the National Enquirer over the years done that? Suing for libel is not easy - that’s why the Donald suggested that he’d change the rules regarding libel earlier in the campaign.

If it is false why did Rafael call Trump a “rat” ? If someone makes up a story about you do you call them a “rat” or a “liar”? A rat is someone who exposes the truth about you ..”rat you out”. I liar is someone who doesn’t tell the truth.

I wonder how “Coach is Right (sometimes..)” knows absolutely that all the info/rumors/accusations or whatever they are about Cruz are false, and that Trump is responsible. Does he say in the rest of the article how he knows this?

Discovery goes both ways. Let’s see what’s on Cruz’s cell phones and laptops.

It is so sad that this is diverting attention away from the policy discussion that we should be having. We aren’t hearing the wonderful things that Ted Cruz is going to do to take the Federal Government back from the Washington Cartel and return it to the people. In fact, because of these allegations, the Washington Cartel, at least the Bush wing of it, is fixing to commit suicide by joining Ted Cruz’s crusade to do them in! What a leader! Ted Cruz can get the Washington Cartel to turn on itself, and no one is watching! ;-)

Oh, here is something else Coach says:

Given Senator Cruz’s initial reaction, the elements of a case for making an exception to the public figure rule would seem to be present in this matter.

Because this story has been published (Cruz alleges it is totally false), it is clearly injurious to Cruz’s good name. And because unprivileged information was used, that is material not based on statements made by Cruz, he should be able to prevail in a lawsuit against the Enquirer.

As a Harvard-educated lawyer, Cruz knows these things. All he has to do is sue. On the other hand if the story of five women in his bed is even only 20% true …. well let’s not go there, alright?

You are mistaken. This IS a policy discussion. After all, Cruz is that wholesome, family values type, right? RIGHT?!?!?! Well, turns out that may not be the case. If not, well, how many other policy ideas will he screw us on?

It’s expensive to sue....I recall when Elizabeth Taylor (google her...violet eyes...black horses) sued Enquirer

But it is done all the time

If Ted Cruz has an extra half million lying around to give Fiorina for shites and giggles surely he can pony up and call Morgan and Morgan

Aw, this is kinda sweet, thinking Cruz is squeaky clean. But it is pretty clear that at least some of the details, including some of the identities of the women he is involved with are true. You don’t get “matching tattoos” on the same day — even temporary ones — with just ANYBODY. Lol

Carol Burnett successfully sued the Enquirer for libel and got $1.6 million in 1981.

They told the truth, however, about Edwards, his mistress, and love child.

I'd say it's currently unknown about the truth of this Cruz story. Has the MSM picked it up?

The Enquirer smear is just a story about a story, there isn’t really anything to sue them over. The Enquirer was careful to shield themselves by reporting on reports and not relying on their own sourcing.

Also, Trump people would LOVE to see Cruz sue in order to keep this trash in the news.

Additionally, as a public figure it is not easy to sue and win - at least within any timeframe that matters in a Presidential cycle. Is Hillary suing for the NE’s report she’ll be dead in 6 months? Is Obama suing over the NE’s reports he and Michelle are going to get divorced and he has 12 lovers?

No thanks Trumpies. Cruz denied the story and there is no evidence any of it is true. No reason to spend any more time in the gutter with Trump. Cruz will gain some sympathy if he leaves it as is and will very possibly go on to win the Wisconsin primary.

Oh! No! Say it ain’t so! This is just talk about sex and stuff like that! What Ted and Amanda do in the privacy of a Fox News Women’s Room is their business, not ours! ;-)
