IL: Surprise! Criminals fear Death more than Arrest in Chicago

In Chicago, the rule of law has broken down. There have been 749 homicides  homicides so far this year, according to the web site HeyJackass.com. Those are all withing the city limits of Chicago. Chicago's population is 2.7 million. Given that we have over three weeks to go to the end of the year, the annual homicide rate for Chicago will be over 28 per 100,000.  That falls into the rates typical for places where the rule of law has failed. Places like South Africa (32), Brazil (25), the American Virgin Islands (33), Puerto Rico (24), and Jamaica(36).

28 is the overall rate for the entire city. In reality, some neighborhoods are much more violent, others have a very low homicide rate. It is all very predictable and based on human nature. When the rule of law cannot be relied on, people fear the law less than they fear their enemies.  Grudges, blood feuds, and tribalism (or the proto-tribes known as "gangs") flourish.

It is reasonable to fear being disarmed more than being arrested for being armed. From chicagotribune.com:

But what of the trigger men and boys?

"Their greatest fear is that they'll be caught on the street without a gun," Dart said. "They're not worried about being caught with a gun, but without a gun. There is a certain logic to it. They know the system, but that's not what they're afraid of."
In the gun culture, the saying is "It is better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6."

It was nice of Cook County Sheriff Dart to remind us of this fact. It is something that occasionally intrudes into the bubble surrounding those who want a disarmed public.

In Chicago it is exacerbated by the Ferguson Effect, where police, repeatedly attacked by the media and "progressives", (but I repeat myself) pull back from violent neighborhoods.

The Chicago Tribune and Sheriff Dart have discovered a fundamental truth known by most for thousands of years. Keep it up.  Before you know it, you will be reading the Federalist Papers.

A good way to help enforce the rule of law is to have armed citizens and police cooperate.

Maybe if the Aldermen weren’t making so much money from working with the drug gangs it would be easier to make Chicago safe.

Thats the theory of it. I suspect most municipalities have some program setup to bring the community into the picture. They rarely work well for various reasons. I think tho the root cause is govt may give lip service to ‘civilian’ particiaption but in reality they view us as clods to be ruled and herded.

It seems most govt types see crime as a good thing. After all it gives them a good ‘reason’ to raise taxes and take away our freedoms.

Or to have armed citizens and cemeteries cooperate.

The murder rate in Rat-controlled Memphis has exploded, too. With 214 murders (the latest number I’ve seen), the per 100K rate is 33 and will likely rise before the end of December. Many neighborhoods remain safe, but too many are like war-zones. It’s not just the violence, the property crimes are out-of-control. They will steal anything not nailed down.

They should make the laws like Taiwan has. Get caught with drugs- mandatory death penalty the next day. Get caught with gun- mandatory death penalty the next day.

There must be a common denominator...what could it be?

The real concern is having your turn by turn nav system route you thru these high crime neighborhoods, especially after dark.

It is the lack of a reliable rule of law. Everywhere around the world it is the same.

It was the same in medieval Europe.

Remove a reliable rule of law, and people revert to tribal society.

NO.

Even these thugs have a Constitutionally-guaranteed right to keep and bear arms. Even the ones that have committed felonies. Infringements in the form of laws already on the books (e.g., Gun Control Act of 1968, and all state laws) are nothing but unconstitutional infringements.

And the DEATH PENALTY for possession of an American birthright? You must live in one of the Slave States to be thinking this way. You'll have to kill us first to take our guns.

ISRA Thursday Bulletin - December 15, 2016

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

The Ohio State Legislature has passed and sent to Governor John Kasich an expanded concealed carry bill that would allow concealed carry on college campuses, as well as a few other places. The enemies of concealed carry claim the expansion of concealed carry is unnecessary because Police Officer Alan Honijko was near enough to stop the recent terrorist attack on the Ohio State campus. Of course, if the officer was around the block, the results would have been horrific. What about many of the Ohio college students who have already been murdered by thugs? There wasn’t a policeman there to save them. They never had a chance. If Kasich signs the bill, the present students will at least have a chance.

President-Elect Donald Trump continues to confound the media and the talking heads with his cabinet picks. His choice for Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, present CEO of Exxon Mobil, is being criticized for his friendship with Vladimir Putin, as well as other world leaders. Some Republicans, Democrats and the lame stream media are all jumping up and down and piling on.

The last two Secretaries of State were both political hacks and grifters. Hillary Clinton’s accomplishments for the benefit of the United States are exactly - um, well none. She did do a great job in shaking down foreign governments for the benefit of the “Clinton Foundation” and personal enrichment. It is hard to overlook the thousands of people slaughtered in the Middle East, the thousands of foreigners crammed down our throats, and the Americans that have been murdered, but she was not a friend of Putin.

Then there is John Kerry. This cat wouldn’t be anywhere if he hadn’t married the widow, the heir to the A. J. Heinz fortune. Kerry was in Vietnam and received three dubious Purple Hearts (you could go home after three Purple Hearts). He threw his United States Military medals in the Potomac River. Recently, he received the Legion of Honor from France. I wonder if he will throw that medal in the river. It is a beautiful medal, maybe we should keep the medal and........ Kerry’s record as Secretary of State equals Hillary’s. John Kerry in not a friend of Putin’s either. Maybe it is time we try a new tactic, perhaps someone who at least knows Putin. The media portrays Tillerson as a friend of Putin. I can tell you this: just because you know and deal with someone, does not mean they are your friend. You work together because you have to.

One of the interesting tidbits coming out of the election is the formation of the Congressional Second Amendment Caucus. Congressman Thomas Massie (Kentucky) and a group of other conservatives want to propose and support good Second Amendment legislation, as well as aid President-Elect Trump in defending and promoting the rights of law abiding gun owners. One of the bills they will be looking at is the National Reciprocity Bill for concealed carry. That bill is not quite ready to go yet because it does not have penalties for states who do not comply. It will be interesting to see how many Illinois Congressmen join the Second Amendment caucus.

In the not so newsy news department, the Brady Campaign admits to partnering with Hollywood in promoting its anti-gun agenda. “Miss Sloan” is the latest unabashed chapter in their deceptive saga. The opening weekend average for the movie was just $1167, per theater. That ranks as the 79th worst opening since 1982. I’m pretty sure they won’t get any of my money, or yours either.

That rule of law may not always be what we think it is.

I have a young man, former gang member from CA, working for me. The old gangs had a system, a code of conduct, and if you didn’t follow it, you were taken care of. In some ways they viewed the cops as another gang and understood the “territory” between them.

The problem is the new gangs from other areas and also the blacks. Blacks have gotten a “racists free pass” and don’t follow any code of conduct either with police or other gangs. There appears to be a lot of tension under the surface.

They fear loss of EBT more than anything. Second is disrespect. They don’t give a crap about imprisonment. It’s a family reunion in prison.

There’s two options. Take a map reading course or go home when the sunsets.
