Remember that crazy rumor that was going around that Alabama Governor Robert Bentley was considering appointing the Attorney General that halted his impeachment to replace Jeff Sessions in the Senate?

Attorney General Luther Strange recently asked the legislature to halt the ethics-related impeachment proceedings against the Governor, while providing virtually no explanation for doing so. Now, with his appointment to the Senate, Governor Bentley will be able to single-handedly appoint the next Attorney General, who will be responsible for prosecuting any ethics charges.
Governor Bentley’s second term in office has been mired in various scandals relating to his affair with a senior political adviser, and his subsequent divorce from his wife of 50 years. The impeachment proceedings came after statements from the former top state law enforcement official that the Governor abused his authority and repeatedly used taxpayer resources to hide his affair and punish anyone that questioned it. More recently, he’s also drawn suspicion for refusing to disclose the passengers he took on his taxpayer-funded plane to Trump’s inauguration and for using campaign funds to pay for the legal fees of his now-former senior political adviser, Rebekah Mason.
If appointed, Luther Strange will have to run for the seat in 2018 in what is anticipated to be a very hotly contested Republican primary.
My only question is will Sessions need to recuse himself when the DOJ looks into this!
I feared it would be Martha Roby, which would have been far worse than Strange.
Roby is a RINO in everyway and came out against Trump when the 2005 private video “Grab her... male-talk bravado” came out.

A thread in the last few days had many who considered Strange their preferred coice, IIRC. I’m not an Alabaman, so I don’t know the situation.

AG Strange had a reputation as a conservative. Of course, so did Governor Bentley at one time.
Could be the usual “Republicans are evil” spew from the media.

It is clear that the Attorney General did *not* halt the impeachment hearings.
He *asked* the legislature to do so. Big difference.
So is Strange a solid conservative who will wholeheartedly support Trump’ agenda in the Senate? If so I don’t really care if he’s the reincarnation of Al Capone.....
I have news for the non male world. That is sometimes the way we talk about women . And yes, I have it on good account that women talk that way about men on occasion. And you anti men leftists out there. We objectify women. Woman come equiped with certain attributes that attract men. Men come with certain attributes that attract women. It's called nature.....get over it.
At this point, I am not concerned about the alleged “corruption” of any Republican/Conservative. If the media, especially, is making the claims, screw them.
Bentley may be a scumbag and may be playing a little politics for himself, but it does not change that fact that Luther Strange is a solid Pro-life, Second Amendment, constitutionalist that will carry on in Sessions place.
Much better than the handful of RINOs that were jockeying for the position.
He’s not a terrible pick and will be a solid vote for Trump in the Senate. He’s more of an establishment type though. Just expect him to be more in the mold of Richard Shelby than Jeff Sessions.
I live in Alabama. Luther Strange is solid.
