Men's Looks Matter More Than Women Admit, Study Shows

Even if a guy has a great personality, a woman looking for a date still hopes he's at least a little cute, a new study suggests.

Researchers asked young women (ages 15 to 29) to choose potential dates from a series of photographs and descriptions, while the women's mothers (ages 37 to 61) were asked to select possible boyfriends for their daughters using the same information. Results showed that a man's looks influenced both groups of women more strongly than his personality profile. This held true even if a man's profile was filled with highly desirable personal qualities, such as being respectful, honest and trustworthy.

Both daughters and mothers rated the attractive and moderately attractive men as more desirable dating partners than unattractive men, said the findings, published online in March in the journal Evolutionary Psychological Science.

The study suggests that women value physical attractiveness in a potential mate far more than they say they do, said study author Madeleine Fugère, a professor of social psychology at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic. [Busted! 6 Gender Myths in the Bedroom & Beyond]

Previous research on this subject has given conflicting results. Some studies have suggested that both parents and their adult children (especially daughters) may say that personality is more important than looks in a potential mate, with these individuals typically ranking physical attractiveness lower on a list of personality characteristics. However, in real life, that's not how people seem to make these romantic decisions, Fugère told Live Science. For example, data from speed-dating research shows that a man's physical attractiveness has a strong impact on women's mate preferences, Fugère said.

So, this new study attempted to put the looks-versus-personality decision to the test in women.....

I wish they'd quit using my photo as the unattractive example.

In other news the sun will rise in the morning and birds can fly

Did they put the mans net worth in the profile?

If, however, you happen to have $20 or $30 million, then all other considerations go out the window....

Did they put the mans net worth in the profile?

Everybody already knows the importance of that.

“However, the new findings, combined with previous research in which women have reported that personality is more important to them...”

What a surprise.

Attractive men attract? Unattractive men repel?

How illogical.;-)

I could fall for the Elephant Man or the Hunchback if I got to know him...if I got to know his soul some and found it to be decent and deep and I felt a connection. So I’m not sure how good this test is. What if these same women were presented with these less than attractive men, but got to know them on a deeper level? Pictures are one thing. We all have things that attract us physically. But this is only one aspect of attraction. It’s not complete, IMO.

Attractive only goes so far. I’d MUCH rather spend an evening with James Woods (whom I was crazy about from his acting, many many years ago already before I even became conservative) than George Clooney.

here is a combination of a satire/truth/comical website explaining how women select their mates made many years ago. Also how men select theirs.. It even mentions Donald Trump(again made over a decade ago)...warning crude language Rated R

http://www.laddertheory.com/ratingsystem.htm

small example:

So the breakdown looks like:
Money and Power: 50%

Attraction: 40%

Things Women Say They Care About But Do Not: 10%
(this includes intelligence, sense of humor, honesty, sensitivity etc. )

The last 10% was my effort to give women the benefit of the doubt. A common question men ask of women is “Tell me what you want in a man?”, which is like asking how many guys she’s slept with, an invitation to be lied to. Because she’ll almost invariably answer with some combination of

• sense of humor
• intelligence
• sensitivity
• emotional stability
As far as I can tell this is mostly rubbish. But in an effort to be fair I have included this, since there seem to be a few rare cases of this. Just none that I have ever seen.

Another thing to watch out for is the code words women use. Here is a translation guide for dealing with women.
Says: I want a man who is motivated and has goals.
Means: I want a rich man

Says: I want a man who knows how to treat a woman.
Means: I want a rich man

Says: He’s from a really good family.
Means: He’s from a really rich family

Tis a cynical observation, but I once heard:
“A man will marry (mate with) the most attractive woman he can afford.
A woman will mate with the richest man she can attract.”

And thus capitalism was born as the world’s third oldest profession.

You cannot study something that doesn’t exist.....in this case what women want...because they don’t even know.

I am a fat, ugly man that has been mostly ignored by women for my whole life. So this is true. It’s OK though - the one that God meant for me thinks I’m good looking, and I am not tempted to stray.

You are thinking like someone who plans a lifetime with someone.

Today’s hookup culture snowflakes (who demand somebody else pay for their birthcontrol) just want a few orgasms and for someone to pay for some meals. They might stay with one guy for a few years (until they pay off their car) if he isn’t too boring.

Different goals and expectations. Even in the Church often enough.

Way too many females view the swarthy islam male with his bearded filth and lying tongue as an attraction. Then they fall for it and pinch off yet another islam POS.

I won’t offer my solution for such evil..lest it be final.
