Is Glock the Perfect Prepper Handgun?
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 4/12/2017 | K Felts

Posted on 04/12/2017 10:38:18 AM PDT by w1n1

Some preppers talk about the versatility of Glock 17 magazines being able to fit with the Glock 19. This feature is highly desirable for most prepper with survival and limited resources in mind.

The standardization Glock put into place is what makes it a perfect prepper handgun. When it comes to handguns, very few companies have adopted magazine standardization. Glock on the other hand has embraced standardization. This makes Glock ideal for groups.

Take Beretta for example. Beretta is a great handgun, I can not say they follow the same level of standardization as Glock. For example, the Beretta APX will not use 92F magazines. This creates an issue of stockpiling magazines for the same brand name, but different models. What do think? Read the rest of the Glock prepper story here.

Have one. My wife’s airweight out shoots it hands down. Only way I’d use it is as a belly gun. I guess it’s frame flex. It’s light though. It reminds me of my old toy cap gun with the plastic caps.

I hate how the Glock fits my hand. No other considerations matter.

Yep, the grip angle is different, some people like it some people don’t. I think one of the 80% manufacturers has a frame that fits Glock parts but has a more normal grip angle. Absolutely no idea whether that is worth anyone’s time.

you don’t want to fire 308 in something meant for only 7.62x51).

You have that backwards. No 7.62X51 in .308 only.

No, it is not.

The Smith and Wesson 586 is.

I stand corrected. I think I’ll stick with the 627 8 round cylinder.

Why not get the 8-round 357 mag from S&W? I love mine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.62%C3%9751mm_NATO

There is debate as to whether or not it is unsafe, but the commercial .308 is generally loaded to higher pressure than the military 7.62x51.

It is the reverse situation with the commercial .223 and the military 5.56x45 (the 5.56 is higher SAAMI pressure that .223)

I agree on both points.
I was just making my point about the triggers on all of the guns.

I’ll stick to my AK-15 assault Glock that shoots thousands of teflon coated armor piercing dum-dum rounds per second from from high capacity moon clips. You can never have too much firepower. I saw it in a movie.

Thanks, I read quite a bit on the subject just now. Looks like the best route is a dual marking for both. .308 is considerably cheaper, but I be needing a rifle similar in operation to an AR-10, in .308 now. Thanks again.

Chambered for .308 (and of course can fire 7.62x51) I have an FNH SCAR-17 and a less expensive but also good DPMS LR-308.

The LR-308 is closest to what you want.

.31 calibre with a 5” barrel. Came out of the factory in 1853. I load her up pretty light with 12 grains of Go-X FFFFg. I get bitched at a lot for shooting a collector piece like that but she and I don’t care. She’s doing what she was designed and built to do and I just love the way she does her job.

I only taking her out about once a year these days. Usually on the 4th of July. Sometimes on October 12 (the day General Lee passed) 'cuz she came from W.Va. and I'm not sure if she's North or South and I want to keep her happy either way.

I carry one on duty. I am a factory certified armorer. Glocks are reliable, efficient and capable. And they’re so damn- boring.

Sorry.

The angle does not bother me at all. The front strap of the grip has a strange angle that digs into my hand funny. No other brand of gun does that.
