I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I'll try and the mods can take it down if it's not.
I have a new book coming out on Amazon this Memorial Day weekend, just in time for summer reading. If you like quirky, funny, historical fiction, take a look. I think you'll find the book timely as it is an allegorical tale on fake news and media bias -- and its impact on a gullible public. I'll post a link for the book, which will be initially available on Kindle, later this week when it goes live. Meantime, here is the synopsis you'll see on Amazon:
In a small southern Missouri town, a young man struggles with the loss of his outlaw-turned-war-hero father and his love for a girl down the road who only sees him as a friend. Maddy Winters voracious appetite for thrilling dime novel tales has enveloped her in a world of fantasy, filled with unrealistic hopes and dreams. Young Joe Gilmore, haunted by terrible nightmares of his father and his inability to save his mother from losing her farm, makes a fateful decision to imitate Maddys dime novel hero, and unwittingly launches a manhunt that inaugurates him into the tomes of history. As a beleaguered governor tries desperately to tamp down copycat criminals, federal marshals, Pinkerton agents, bounty hunters, and Maddy herself race against time to find Joe, while newspapers and dime novelists alike find new fodder to excite and exhilarate their readers.
Dime Novel is told from the perspective of Joes adventure, period news articles, and a long-forgotten interview with dime novelist William Porter, discovered in the archives of the Smithsonian Institution. As the story unfolds, we find that our historical accounts are often fluid -- highly dependent upon the whims and allegiances of the writers and press of the time. Author Jon Judson weaves a tale to set the record straight, and sheds the light of truth on the myths and misconceptions of the legend of Joseph Gilmore. In doing so, he brings closure to the misunderstood life of a nearly forgotten figure in American history.
A thrilling, thunderous yarn. I couldnt put it down. Ned Buntline (Edward Zane Carroll Judson), Dime Novelist
I wouldnt give you a plugged nickel for this damnable tome and Buntline both. Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens), Author
I seldom do Kindle any more, preferring wood pulp and ink for my down time.
“Historical Fiction”? Is that like plastic silverware? Or paper china? Or a plastic glass? Historical fiction, to me, would be if someday a historian wrote the truth about CNN MSNBC CBS NBC ABC NYT WP LAT. Fake News.
Me, too, but these days getting a publisher to pay for print material takes a little work. If Dime Novel shows strong initial sales, I might be able to convince them. Hope you like it when you read it! Stay tuned for the link later this week!
Exactly! I had a little fun with this piece. There's a lot of factual material and press material in the book. I mixed it in such a way that you'll have to figure out what's real and what's not. I spent over two years researching material for this book.
Looks interesting!
(See tagline.)
I hope you'll like it! And your tagline describes my character poor Maddy Winters completely!
A joyful exclamation that your post was seen before any opportunity was given to remove it. Though Kindle is not ‘done’ here, look forward to reading your novel. Best of luck with this and future endeavors.
I'm hoping it'll stay up! I posted in Bloggers and Personal thinking it would be okay. And thank you for your best wishes!
Bump for those who are just waking up...
