McCain should've been locked in a padded room a long time ago either by family if they loved and cared about him or Republican pols who care about the nation. In that hearing, except for misspeaking when he said "President Comey" instead of "President Trump" and a few other word switches, for the first time in a long time McCain wasn't just a pit bull attacking Trump. It's a very low wattage light bulb with McCain, but it's like it finally was on. He was working through the double standard, like it's the first time he realized that not everything used by the coup to get Trump is true or fair.
So now, the coup and its media associates are concerned that McCain is no longer useful. They must have another, more reliable for them, "Republican" from Arizona to take his place.
